If you are importing from Smart P&ID, Smart P&ID must be closed before starting the import session, to ensure that any modifications made to the drawings are properly imported to Smart Instrumentation.

  1. On the Windows Start menu, select Run.

  2. On the Run dialog, type the following string on the same line:

    <home folder>\import <user name>,<password>,<domain>, <plant>, <intermediate plant hierarchy item 1>/<intermediate plant hierarchy item 2>/<intermediate plant hierarchy item 3>...,<unit>,<link> – or – @<link group>,<project>

The string segments in chevrons stand for the following parameters:

    • home folder — The Smart Instrumentation home folder.

    • user name, password — The Domain Administrator's username and password.

    • domain — The name of the target domain.

    • plant — The name of the plant or equivalent highest-level item in the plant hierarchy.

    • intermediate plant hierarchy item 1/ intermediate plant hierarchy item 2/ intermediate plant hierarchy item 3... — when you want to import source data from multiple plant hierarchies into the target plant hierarchy and the intermediate plant hierarchy has two or more levels, use the character defined in the Administration module as the plant hierarchy separator for the domain, for example, /. If no separator is defined in the Administration module, use / as the default.

    • unit — The name of the unit or equivalent lowest level item in the plant hierarchy.

    • import link — The name of the import link you want to execute in the current import session.

    • link group — The name of the group whose links you want to execute in the current import session. When used, this parameter is always preceded by a commercial sign @.

    • project — The name of the target project when working in an owner operator domain.

    Examples

The following are two examples of using the command line syntax.

    1. Importing data to the demonstration domain by executing a link named Flow in an owner operator domain:

import DBA,DBA,Demo Domain, Plant 1 – DEMO, Main Building/North/Room 1, Unit 3, Flow, Demo Project.

    2. Importing data to the demonstration domain by executing all the links in a group named Process Data in an engineering company (EPC) domain:

import DBA, DBA, Demo Domain, Plant 1 – DEMO, Main Building/North/Room 1, Unit 3, @ Process Data.

    • The parameter strings must be typed on the same line.

    • Plant hierarchy item names into which you intend to import data must not contain slash / characters because the software interprets these characters as separators between successive hierarchy levels.

  3. Press Enter.

You see the links that you specified in the statement being carried out.
