This dialog enables you to configure a new apparatus or a fieldbus termination block and add it to a new or existing terminal strip.

Apparatus is a wiring item that pertains to I/O devices of different kinds. These multi-purpose devices accept wires and signals, for example, barriers, opto-couplers, relays, repeaters, isolators, and so forth. Also, you use this feature to create a fieldbus termination block whose configuration is different from an apparatus configuration.

Adding a new apparatus to your wiring starts with the configuration of a new apparatus strip: setting the number of apparatuses required, defining the apparatus terminal numbering, pattern, signal propagation, and the color of the terminals. You create a new apparatus after completing the new apparatus configuration. (You do this exactly the same way you create a terminal strip.) You can also create a new apparatus based on any existing configuration. You can modify or delete an apparatus configuration. After you added a new apparatus, Smart Instrumentation displays it in the Domain Explorer or Reference Explorer showing the terminals belonging to the apparatus. Note that you can have regular terminals and apparatus terminals on the same terminal strip.

Apparatus profile

The features in this group box allow you to define the apparatus name, description, manufacturer, model, the number of apparatuses, and the terminal after which the apparatus is inserted.

Configuration name

Allows you to select an existing apparatus configuration. After clicking New or Edit, you can type a new apparatus configuration name.

Fieldbus apparatus

Allows you to create a fieldbus termination block. Selecting this check box changes the options in the Apparatus configuration group box. Note that this option is not available for telecom panels.

Internal terminator

Allows you to create an internal terminator on a fieldbus termination block. Note that this option is available only after selecting the Fieldbus apparatus check box.

Description

After clicking New or Edit, allows you to type a brief description of the current apparatus configuration.

Manufacturer

Allows you to select an appropriate apparatus manufacturer. If the required item is not available, select next to the select list arrow to open the Terminal Manufacturer dialog box where you can add a new value to the Manufacturer select list.

Model

Allows you to select a model. If the required item is not available, select next to the list arrow to open the Terminal Model dialog where you can add a new value to the Model list.

Number of apparatuses

Allows you to select a required number of apparatuses that you want to add if you want to have a block of more than one apparatuses. Smart Instrumentation displays this number by default when you add a new apparatus to a terminal strip. You can change this value if necessary.

Apparatus numbering

These options allow you to customize the apparatus name and set the position numbering.

Prefix

Allows you to type a position name if required. Position names can be up to 15-characters in length. This name appears in the Domain Explorer or Reference Explorer under the new terminal strip (only the first four characters), in the Connection window, and in the appropriate reports.

Numbered

Allows you to number the positions.

Apparatus configuration

The features in this group box allow you to define the apparatus configuration: the apparatus terminal pattern, the terminal side name and color. This section becomes accessible after clicking the New or Edit command buttons.

Orientation

Allows you to select an apparatus terminal pattern:

Left/Right

An apparatus that has two sides: input and output.

Left

An apparatus that has wires only on the left side.

Right

An apparatus that has wires only on the right side.

Regular

A conventional terminal that functions as a single unit. (Not available when the Fieldbus apparatus check box is selected)

Terminal Color and Numbering

Allows you to type a terminal number or name in the left and right boxes and select a color by clicking the list arrow.  For example:

PPM All Outputs Graphic

PPM All Outputs Graphic

Terminal type

Allows you to select a terminal type.

Add Terminal

Adds another terminal to the apparatus configuration and you can then select its terminal pattern, type the side names and select their color.

Delete Terminal

Deletes a terminal from the apparatus configuration.

Apparatus configuration for Fieldbus

When defining a configuration for a fieldbus termination block, the Apparatus configuration group box has the following options:

Orientation

Allows you to select the required terminal orientation:

L&R

A termination block that has two sides: input and output (that is, left and right)

L

A termination block that has wires on the left side only.

R

A termination block that has wires on the right side only.

Function

Allows you to select a function of the termination block: HomeRunIn, HomeRunOut, or Spur.

Channel

Allows you to type an appropriate channel number

Polarity

Allows you to select a required polarity.

Terminal Color and Numbering

Allows you to select in the text box next to the list arrows and type the left and right terminal number or name. Then select the required terminal color from the list.

Terminal type

Allows you to select a terminal type.

Add terminal

Adds another terminal to the configuration.

Delete terminal

Deletes a terminal from the configuration.

New

Allows you to create a new apparatus configuration.

Edit

Allows you to edit the displayed apparatus configuration.

Delete

Allows you to delete the displayed apparatus configuration.

Create

Adds one or more apparatuses (depending on the number appearing in the Number of apparatuses field) based on the displayed configuration to a new or existing terminal strip.

Terminal Type

Opens the Terminal Types dialog box, where you can add a new terminal type. After clicking Save or Create, this can then be selected from the Terminal Type list in the Terminal Numbering Pattern pane.
