This dialog allows you to select, create, or edit a connection type that facilitates rapid cable set connections. You define a connection type that contains a pattern by which Smart Instrumentation connects wires and jumpers to a terminal strip.
The options become available for editing after you select New or Edit.
To access this dialog, select in the Connection window or the Wiring Module window.
All fields become accessible for editing after clicking New or Edit. Clicking New opens the New Connection Type dialog where you configure a new connection type and then return to this dialog.
Connection type
Allows you to select an existing connection type. Alternatively, you can select New or Edit and type a new connection type name.
Description
Allows you to type a new connection type description if needed.
Skip between sets
Allows you to enter the number of terminals that you want to skip between the first terminal of each set.
Wires
This data window contains all the wires of the selected cable set, showing their names and configurations. The display depends on the number of wires you selected when configuring a new connection type on the New Connection Type dialog.
Wire
Displays a specific wire in the set. The displayed W00x values represent the wire names and are used to illustrate the current connection type configuration. This field is not editable.
Skip
Allows you to type the number of terminals to skip before connecting this wire in the set. The skip is always relative to the first terminal to which a wire in the set is connected. Enter the number of terminals to be skipped according to your needs. In most cases, this value is incremented for successive wires.
Side
Allows you to select the A (Active) or O (Opposite) option button to select the terminal side to which you want to connect each wire.
Land
Select here to connect a wire. A screw head appears indicating that a connection has been configured.
Jumpers
(The contents of this group box are displayed only when creating a new connection type or editing a connection type that has jumpers.)
This data window contains all the jumpers of the selected cable set, showing their names and configurations. The display depends on the number of jumpers you selected when configuring a new connection type in the New Connection Type dialog.
Jumper
Displays a specific jumper. The displayed J00x values represent the jumper names and are used to illustrate the current connection type configuration.
Type
Allows you to select the jumper type from this list. The values in this list are determined in the Wire Type supporting table.
Color
Allows you to select the jumper color from this list.
End 1 / End 2
Connects a jumper. A screw head shows up indicating that a connection has been configured.
Skip
Allows you to type the number of terminals to skip for the jumper in the cable set.
Side
Select the terminal side where you connect the jumper: A (Active), O (Opposite).
Preview
This preview window enables you to see how the terminals, wires, and jumpers are connected. It also indicates, with different colors, the active and opposite sides. The preview window is not editable.
