The options on this tab enable you to set various options for the current hook-up drawing generation using your CAD application. The options in this tab are only available when the generation method selected on the General tab is CAD or As previously applied.

Save file in format

Displays a CAD format that the software uses for saving a generated hook-up drawing. When using SmartSketch, you can save the hook-up drawing in any format available in the list.

The following formats are available:

  • SmartSketch Saves the drawing file in .sym format (not available when using AutoCAD or MicroStation.)

  • AutoCAD Saves the drawing file in .dwg format (not available when using MicroStation.)

  • MicroStation Saves the drawing file in .dgn format (not available when using AutoCAD.)

The default output file name is the same as the hook-up name. If there are any spaces in the hook-up name, the software replaces the space with
an underscore ( _ ). The file name ends with an underscore and a two-digit sequence number representing the page number of a multi-page drawing. For example, flow_transmitter_03.dwg. You can change the default name of the output file on the Hook- Up Drawing List dialog.

Global path

Displays the global path set for the folder where Smart Instrumentation saves the hook-up drawing generated by your CAD application.

Target folder path (available after you select Save file in format)

Displays the specified default path for saving the output CAD hook-up drawings at the time of generation. The default folder is the folder you specified on the Preferences dialog, in the Hook-Up Drawings > CAD File Locations page. For the current generation only, you can click Browse and specify a different folder to save the current CAD hook-up drawings. After you complete the current generation and reopen the dialog, the software reapplies the default path setting. When saving the CAD hook-up drawing files, the software names the files according to the source hook-up names and appends the appropriate file extensions.

You can change the output file names in the Hook-Up Drawing List dialog. The default output file names are the same as the hook-up names. If there are any spaces in the hook-up name, when generating the drawing, the software replaces the spaces in the output file name with underscores ( _ ). When the drawing consists of a single page, the file name ends with _01.

Send to plotter or printer

Enables you to send the generated CAD hook-up drawings to your plotter or printer.

  • By default, the Send to plotter or printer check box is cleared. If, on the General tab, you select As previously applied, the CAD Options tab becomes disabled. Therefore, if you want to use the As previously applied option and also print the CAD drawings at the time of generation, you must first select the Send to plotter or printer check box, and only then, on the General tab, select As previously applied.

  • Regardless of this check box setting, when generating a batch of CAD hook-up drawings, the software only opens the CAD drawing generated last in the batch. It is not possible to set the software to open a print preview of every CAD hook-up drawing when generating multiple hook-up drawings.

Use macro functions

Enables you to use macro functions you associated with hook-up macros.

Drawing for subsequent pages

These options apply when a hook-up drawing contains more than one page. The software generates such a drawing if the number of tags associated with the current hook-up is larger than the number of macros that can be accommodated in the generated hook-up drawing. For a multi-page drawing, you can select the drawing that you want to appear on the second and all other subsequent pages of the generated hook-up drawing.

Same as first

Displays the generated hook-up drawing on all the pages of the generated drawing.

General drawing

Displays the generated hook-up drawing on the first page only, with the general drawing displayed on all of the subsequent pages. The general drawing is a predefined drawing that you specified on the Hook-Ups > General page of the Preferences dialog, under General drawing preferences.

Generate from page

Enables you to specify the page number of the first generated page of the hook-up drawing. For example, if you enter the value 2 and then generate a hook- up drawing, the first page of the hook-up drawing displays the value 2.
