Prerequisite

If you want to import an instrument property and this property is a supporting table value, make sure that this value already exists in the appropriate supporting table in Smart Instrumentation. For example, if you want to assign a Field location to a number of instruments, make sure that Field is defined in the Instrument Locations supporting table. If, however, you want to import a new instrument property and insert it into a supporting table, you need to use another procedure. For details, see Import Instrument Index .

  1. On the Link Definitions dialog, create an import link as follows:

    1. In the Link box, type a unique link name.

    2. Under Import method, select Single table.

    3. Under Name of module or table, select COMPONENT.

    4. Complete the import link creation.

  2. Open the Link Properties dialog, and do the following:

    1. If you want to import data to instruments that exist in more than one <unit>, on the Import Level tab, under Hierarchy levels, select Apply and select the lowest plant hierarchy level. For details, see Import Data Into Multiple Plant Hierarchy Items.

    2. On the Tag/Loop tab, clear the Use loop reference data check box if you do not want to import loop properties.

  3. In the Import Link window, open the import link.

  4. In the Target pane, define the import mapping as follows:

    1. If you have instruments belonging to more than one tag class, define a mapping value for the Tag Class (CMPNT_CAT_ID) column. For details, see Tag Class Mapping Codes for Instrument Index Import.

    2. Select the Tag No field, and then, from the Source pane, drag the column containing the tag numbers.

    3. Define mapping for the instrument properties that you want to insert into the COMPONENT table for the mapped tag numbers.

SHARED Tip If you want to associate the source tag numbers with lines that exist in Smart Instrumentation, note that the Import Utility does not associate P&ID drawing references of lines with tag numbers automatically. If you want to assign line P&ID drawing references to the source tag numbers, you must define mapping for both LINE_NUM/LINE_ID and DWG_NAME/DWG_ID columns in the Target pane.

  5. Import the data.

After importing supporting table data, the imported values appear as assigned to the appropriate instruments in the Tag Number Properties dialog.
