The Create Device Panel and Cable dialog enables you to create new device panels with conventional and plug- and-socket device cables and to configure their connections. Smart Instrumentation automatically links the newly created device panel to a tag number that you selected in the Device Panels window.

When you create new device panels and cables from the Device Panels window, this dialog opens in the following cases:

  • If you selected the Manual configuration check box in the Device Panels window.

  • If you selected an instrument tag with an incomplete wiring profile.

Device panel

Allows you to type a device panel name or accept the displayed name.

Associated instrument

Displays the name of the instrument that you selected in the Device Panels window.

Reference device panel

Allows you to select an appropriate reference panel. Note that this list displays the device panels from the Reference Explorer.

Conventional connections

For the conventional device cable connections, this data window displays the reference cable name, cable set, strip, starting terminal, connection type, and Propagate Tag Signal value. Note that these options are only available for reference panels that require conventional connections.

Plug-and-socket connections

For the plug-and-socket device cable connections, this data window displays the cable name, panel port, cable connector, and Propagate Tag Signal value. You can select the connection that you want to use as a basis for the device cable that you are creating. Note that these options are only available for reference panels that require plug-and-socket connections.

Apply to all selected tags with incomplete profile (available only when all of the following are true: in the Device Panels window you selected more than one tag and cleared Manual configuration; and at least one tag has an incomplete profile.)

Applies the values that you selected to all of the tags with incomplete profiles that you selected in the Device Panels window.

Skip (displayed only if in the Device Panels window you selected multiple tag numbers)

Displays the next tag number, without changing settings for the displayed tag number.

Skip All (available only if in the Device Panels window you selected multiple tag numbers)

Closes this dialog without changing the settings for the displayed tag number or for the other tag numbers that you selected in the Device Panels window.
