You use this dialog to open an existing specification for an item or to create a new specification.
Item type
Displays a list of item types which you can select for opening or creating a specification.
The following item types are available:
-
Instrument
-
Loop
-
Hook-up item
-
Cable (only for reference items)
-
Panel (only for reference items)
-
Wiring equipment (only for reference items)
Tag class (only available if you selected Instrument as the item type)
Allows you to select a tag class to which the instrument you are looking for or want to create belongs. The list only displays classes of those tags that can be associated with specs:
Conventional
A tag number that does not belong to the fieldbus, telecom, electrical, HART, or soft tag class
Telecom
A telecom instrument
Foundation Fieldbus
An instrument that is associated with a Foundation Fieldbus segment
HART
A HART instrument
Profibus-DP
An instrument associated with a Profibus DP segment
Profibus-PA
An instrument associated with a Profibus PA segment
Soft Tag
A logical, non-physical, named item, representing the control functions or internal calculations used to monitor or control a process or a signal inside a control system.
Item number
Allows you to type an item number or select anywhere in this box, and then select Find to open the Find Items dialog. The item number that you select is then displayed in this box.
If you type an instrument tag number and select OK, you might receive a message that such an instrument does not exist. You can create a new instrument tag on the fly, provided that you set preferences accordingly. To be able to create instrument tags in the Specifications module, on the Preferences dialog, on the Specifications > General page, under Tag creation, select Allowed.
Form number
Allows you to type a form number or select anywhere in this box, and then select Find to open the Select Specification Form dialog. The form number that you select is then displayed in this field.
If you are creating a specification for a tag case, the value in the Form number box might be view-only. If the value is view only, this means that you have already created previously a specification for a different case of the same tag. After creating a spec for a tag case, the software assigns the same spec form to all other cases of the same tag.
Find
Opens the Find Items dialog or the Select Form dialog, depending on whether the cursor is in the Item number box or in the Form number box.
