In order to use Excel for the source of the data input you need to download and install from the Microsoft Downloads Center the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010. Then add data source to ODBC Data Sources (32- bit) (in System DSN tab) for the driver, and select the Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls *.xlsx *.xlsm *.xlsb).

  1. With your Excel worksheet open, in the top cell row, define table column names without spaces, for example, instrument_tag_number, service, and so forth.

  2. In the cells under the table column names, define the column values, for example, 101-FT - 100/A, Flow, and so forth.

    • The table or column names that you define do not have to match the table column names in Smart Instrumentation.

    • Make sure that the values you enter in the cells comply with the data format used in Smart Instrumentation. For example, when defining instrument tag numbers, you must use the naming convention defined in Smart Instrumentation.

  3. Select the cells that you want to include in a table.

  4. Right-click and select Define Name or select Define Name on the Formulas tab.

  5. In the New Name dialog, type the table name, for example, Source_Instruments.

  6. Select OK to return to your Excel spreadsheet and repeat this procedure for all other tables that you require.

  7. Save the spreadsheet.
