Smart Instrumentation does not support retrieving P&ID drawings that have a bidirectional flow. When retrieving P&ID drawings to Smart Instrumentation they must have a flow direction of End 1 Upstream or End 1 Downstream.

Smart Instrumentation retrieves instrument ports, streams, and lines that Smart P&ID publishes. Instruments associated with up to four lines can be retrieved. Smart Instrumentation allows you to alternate upstream and downstream lines between the instrument's piping ports.

Smart Instrumentation defines the upstream line with the lowest piping port number as the main line and displays it on the General tab of the Tag Number Properties dialog.

You cannot change the association of the main upstream line. Doing so may result in the disassociation of all lines from their ports.
