Smart Instrumentation Version
13.1

This dialog enables you to check and modify various discrepancies that can occur in a data section of a composite page, and to determine the contents of the Table Column List pop-up window for the given section.

When you select OK, Smart Instrumentation automatically performs the following tasks:

  • Checks and eliminates duplicate data field names in the current data section.

  • Updates the length of a field on the current section according to the length of the corresponding table column in the database.

  • Makes the current Process Data and Calculation columns available in the Table Column List pop-up window so that you can add them as data fields in the data section.

  • You cannot regenerate composite pages in the Page Editor. Therefore, if you need to regenerate a composite page, you must regenerate each page section individually in the Section Editor.

  • If you want to add a user- defined specification view to a data page, you must first add it on the Specification Views dialog.

Select tables, views, and columns

Displays the names of the tables and views whose columns you can add in the section.

Table/View Name

Displays the name of the database table or view.

Select

Selects the table or view whose columns you want to add as data fields in the section, and allows you to displays the table columns after selecting Show.

Show Columns

Allows you to display the columns for the table or view that you selected.

Select columns

Displays the names of columns that belong to a specific table or view that you selected. You can select all or particular columns for adding in the section. To extend the existing selection, hold down the CTRL key while selecting or un-selecting columns.

Columns that are indicated in bold correspond to data fields that are already used in the section.

Column Name

Displays the name of the table column.

Column Type

Displays the column type and the maximum number of characters that you can use in the data fields.

Select all

Selects all the displayed columns for use as data fields in the section.

Select Used Columns

Selects the columns which are already used as data fields in the current section.

Columns used in the section

Displays the actual number of columns used in the current section. This number changes after you drag columns in the section from the Table Column List pop-up window, available on the Edit Fields and Headers toolbar, or when you remove columns from the section. When calculating this number, the software takes into account the following variables:

  • All columns included in the section as data fields.

  • System columns associated with the columns included in the section, for example, columns with the _ID or _flg suffix. These columns cannot be used as data fields and, therefore, are not shown in the section.

  • Computed field conditions.

  • Custom field columns (all columns with the _UDF suffix).

Total number of columns

Displays the sum of all used columns, columns you select, and columns that are available for inclusion in the section after you regenerate the section. The software calculates the number according to the action that you perform:

Column selection only

The software automatically updates the total number of columns according to your column selection. If the total number of columns exceeds 700, the text font changes to red, which indicates that you must reduce the number of columns.

Section regeneration without selecting any columns

If you just select OK without selecting any columns and then reopen the dialog, the total number of columns increases significantly because, when regenerating the section, the appropriate SQL Select command retrieves all columns from all tables and views that are associated with the current section and displays these columns in the Table Column List pop-up window. For example, if the process function of the current section is Flow, after you regenerate the section, the Table Column List pop-up window displays all columns belonging to the FLOW table.

Column selection and section regeneration

The software automatically updates the total number of columns according to your column selection and also adds all columns retrieved by the SQL Select command. Note that even if the total number of the selected columns displayed before regeneration is lower than 700, after you select OK, the software might not be able to regenerate the section if the sum of the selected columns and the columns added by the SQL Select command exceeds 700. In this case, you need to select a smaller number of columns, regenerate the section, add the appropriate columns in the section, and then save the section. After that, you can repeat this procedure for the remaining columns you intended to select.

Saving the section before or after regeneration

When saving the section, the software automatically removes all columns that are not used in the section, apart from system columns, custom field columns, and computed field conditions.

Maximum allowed total

Displays the maximum number of columns that a section can include. You cannot add more than 700 columns in a section.
