Before importing data into Smart Instrumentation, the following general prerequisites must be met:

  • There must be a target Smart Instrumentation domain containing at least one plant hierarchy item at the lowest level of the hierarchy (by default, this is a <unit>). You create plant hierarchy items in the Administration module.

  • There must be a naming convention for instruments and loops in each target <unit>. This is necessary only if you intend to work with tables whose columns require naming conventions (for example, COMPONENT, LOOP). You set naming conventions in the Administration module.

  • In Smart Instrumentation, you must specify the valid Temporary folder path on the General page of the Preferences dialog.

  • If you are importing from Smart P&ID, Smart P&ID must be closed before starting the import session, to ensure that any modifications made to the drawings are properly imported to Smart Instrumentation.

  • The software does not update the PLANT table, which contains the active item library designation. Therefore, when importing hook-up data, if the active item library designation was changed in the source, you must select the active item library manually after performing the import to be able to continue to work with the data.
