Smart Instrumentation Version
13.1

The current prerequisite only applies if you want to define instrument types in your source and do not want to map them to instrument types shipped with Smart Instrumentation. Before defining source table columns as data fields holding instrument type abbreviations and instrument type descriptions, you must ensure that the values in the source table columns comply with the conventions used in Smart Instrumentation.

After you select the source table columns to be used as the instrument type name (abbreviation) and description, when importing data, the Import Utility creates in Smart Instrumentation new instrument types and instrument type descriptions according to the existing conventions. For example, when importing instrument type abbreviation, all characters exceeding the first six characters are truncated. To carry out a successful import, you need to select the source table columns that are most compatible with the Smart Instrumentation instrument type, instrument type description, and process function conventions.

Use the following table as guidelines when selecting source table columns and setting them as instrument type abbreviation fields and instrument type description fields:

Instrument Type Parameter

Smart Instrumentation Conventions

Abbreviation maximum length

6 characters

Abbreviation typeface

Upper case (for example, FY – not – fy or Fy)

Description maximum length

40 characters

Both instrument type abbreviation and description are required parameters. A combination of instrument type abbreviation and description must be unique.
