This dialog enables you to associate cables with the sections in your <plant>, or to modify existing associations. You associate the sections, determine their order, and then select the active positions for each section.

To open this dialog, in the Domain Explorer or Reference Explorer, select one or more cables in the List view. right-click the selected cables, and then on the shortcut menu, select Actions > Cable Routing.

Cable

Displays the top cable you selected in the Domain Explorer or Reference Explorer. If you selected more than one cable, you have the option of selecting any of these cables from the list.

Mode

There are three modes of effecting cable routing. You move back-and-forth among them by selecting from the Mode list. The options are:

Routing

Associates sections into a new cable routing or to edit an existing cable routing. This dialog opens with Routing selected.

Copy

Copies the settings of an existing routing to selected cables

Append

Adds the routing data of a source cable to a destination cable

End 1 location

Displays the device connected to one of the cable ends, if appropriate, as defined in the relevant connection dialog.

End 2 location

Displays the device connected to the other cable end, if appropriate, as defined in the relevant connection dialog.

Pulling area

Displays the pulling area to which the current cable is assigned. To change the pulling area, select to open the Cable Properties dialog.

Revision

Allows you to type or edit the routing revision identifier as necessary.

Available sections

The pane in this group box displays the sections that you can associate with the selected cable, based on the filter applied below. This pane also displays sections you have dissociated from a routing.

Section filter

You use the value in this box to filter the available sections you display in the Available sections pane. If this box is empty, or if you type *, select Filter to see all available sections. The following are useful options for displaying a portion of the sections:

  • You can type b or B and select Filter to display available Building sections named under Smart Instrumentation conventions.

  • You can type t or T and select Filter to display available Trunk sections named under Smart Instrumentation conventions.

Save filter as default

Sets the last Section filter value as the default setting for displaying available sections the next time this dialog opens.

Assigned sections

The grid in this group box displays the sections associated with the selected cable, the section order, length, and routing position. Changing an existing routing may cause a change in the length of cables and thus a change in the drum of the associated cable.

Move Up

Moves the selected section to a higher position in the order of sections.

Move Down

Moves the selected section to a lower position in the order of sections.

Unassign All

lick to unassign all the sections in the Assigned sections pane.

Panel to routing distance

Allows you to type the distance between an instrument and a routing section.

Total routing length

Displays the sum of the section lengths and the panel-routing distance.

Cable spare length

Displays the cable spare length based on the values you entered in the Cable Routing Options dialog.

Total cable length

Displays the sum of the section lengths, the panel-routing distance, and the cable spare length.
