On the Control System tab of the I/O Card Properties dialog, you define the system card control settings, I/O type, and primary and secondary locations of the I/O card in the DCS or PLC cabinet.

In a redundant system configuration, an I/O card can function as a primary or secondary I/O card and can be associated with several I/O terminations. Therefore, an I/O termination can serve multi-paired redundant I/O cards. However, in these redundant I/O card configurations, the I/O termination can be associated only with one pair of primary and secondary I/O cards. Also, an I/O card cannot function as both a primary and secondary I/O card for the same I/O termination.

If you are creating DeltaV-compatible items, see Crucial Fields for the DeltaV Interface for important information.

Name

Displays the I/O card name that you set on the General tab.

Panel

Displays the panel that holds the active I/O card.

Control system details

Note that some of the field headers on this tab can be different from the ones you see on your dialog. This is due to the fact that some field headers are manufacturer- specific. Selecting a different manufacturer when editing the properties displays the headings used by that manufacturer. To customize your own panel manufacturer-specific field headers, open the Panel Manufacturer dialog.

I/O type

Allows you to select an appropriate I/O type. Smart Instrumentation uses this field for validation when assigning a tag number.

Module

Allows you to type the software address to which this card is assigned.

Controller/Processor

Allows you to select a controller for this I/O card, if applicable. If the required controller is not on the list, select to open a dialog where you add or modify the items in the Controller/Processor list.

I/O card redundancy

Displays whether the current I/O card functions as a primary or a secondary I/O card. This field is blank if I/O card redundancy has not been set for the current I/O card.

Redundant

Redundant I/O module flag. Allows you to designate the I/O card as redundant. This designation is required by the DCS vendors to indicate the redundancy when publishing the card. DCS I/O card definitions also provide this information when these definitions are downloaded to Smart Instrumentation. This check box does not affect the functionality of the software when working without DCS vendors.

Primary I/O card

In an I/O redundancy system configuration, displays the information of the associated primary I/O card when the current I/O card functions as a secondary I/O card. If the current I/O card functions as a primary I/O card, the options in this group box are blank.

Cabinet

Displays the name of the panel or cabinet where the primary I/O card is located.

Rack

Displays the name of the rack where this primary I/O card is connected. Note that this field header is panel manufacturer-specific.

Slot

Displays the slot position of the I/O card in the rack. Note that this field header is panel manufacturer-specific. If you are defining a redundant I/O card for a DeltaV DCS panel, make sure that in the Primary location group box the value under Position is an odd number.

I/O card

Displays the name of the primary I/O card.

Secondary I/O card

In an I/O redundancy system configuration, displays the information of the associated secondary I/O card when the current I/O card functions as a primary I/O card. If the current I/O card functions as a secondary I/O card, the options in this group box are blank.

Cabinet

Displays the name of the panel or cabinet where the secondary I/O card is located.

Rack

Displays the name of the rack where this secondary card is connected. Note that this field header is panel manufacturer-specific.

Slot

Displays the slot position of the I/O card in the rack. If you are defining a redundant I/O card for a DeltaV DCS panel, make sure that in the Primary location group box the value under Position is an odd number.

I/O card

Displays the name of the secondary I/O card.

I/O Terminations

Opens the I/O Terminations dialog that lists all the I/O terminations that are associated with the current I/O card.
