This dialog is used for setting the change notification of individual specifications within a Specification Binder package. This determines whether they will be revised when you generate a formal issue for a Specification Binder package and whether they will appear in the Change Summary Report.

Each time a formal issue is generated, all the specifications for which the Changed value is Yes undergo revision. If the value is No, the specification retains its previous revision number in the next formal issue.

The following is the cycle of the spec notification Changed column:

  • When a specification is first assigned to a Specification Binder package, the value of this column is Yes.

  • After a formal release, the change notification of all specifications in the Specification Binder package is set to No.

  • After editing a specification, its Changed value is reset to Yes.

  • You can modify the Changed status manually at any time.

The Changed status of the documents in a Specification Binder package also affects printing options. If you select to print only changed documents, then only the specifications whose Changed value is Yes are printed.

Note that in the Specifications module, when editing a specification that is part of a Specification Binder package, you are prompted when saving to select one of the following options:

  • Notify specification as changed: The specification will undergo a revision at the next formal issue.

  • Do not change existing notification: The specification will retain the status it had before you edited it. In this case, the specification may or may not undergo a revision at the next formal release, depending on its previous status.

To open this dialog: In the Document Binder module, right-click a specification and select Spec Change Notification.
