Field properties are properties of field headers that appear in specifications. In the Browser module, field headers are called field names.

Field headers are text strings that are associated with data fields in a specification. If you create a custom form, the field headers displayed in the form are the same as the data field names, (that is, as defined in the database for table columns). For example, the field header of the field SPEC_UDF_C14 is also SPEC_UDF_C14. Using this tab, you can change the field headers so that meaningful text strings appear instead of the database definitions, for example, you can change SPEC_UDF_C14 to Pipe Insulation. You can either change specific headers from the currently open form, or select another form and copy all the headers to the current form.

Changes that you make to the field headers only take effect in Spec Form Field reports and in a form browser that is based on the current form, provided that you added the fields in the Form Browser view. In the Browser module, field headers appear as form browser fields in the Style settings section of the Browser Manager.

In addition, you can define specific fields that you want to make available for editing in External Editor, define specific fields you want the software to use as a source when copying or importing data from one spec to another, and so forth.

Header

Displays the field headers of the current form. The PPM All Outputs Graphic icon points to the active header. You can edit header text for a form browser and Spec Form Field reports. Changes that you make to header text do not affect specification data filters, nor do they affect specification forms or the specifications based on them.

Template

Allows you to define which fields you can edit in the data template of the current form. Also, fields for which these check boxes are selected are available for data copying options. To protect a field from importing or copying data, clear the check box.

When copying or importing data, the software only applies data copying options to non-protected fields according to the setting on the Preferences dialog, under Specifications > General > Data copying options.

Browser

On selecting this options, the edited field name appears in the Style settings section of the Browser Manager in the Browser module.

Editable in IEE

Allows you to make the field available for editing in External Editor (that is, in .isf files that you save from specifications based on the current form). Clearing the check box protects the field from editing in External Editor. The tag number field is not available for editing.

Copy From

Opens a dialog where you can select a source form for overwriting all of the currently displayed field headers.
