Use this procedure to create a typical instrument in the Reference Explorer Typical Instruments folder or from a loop in the Typical Loops folder.

  1. On the Reference Explorer, expand the hierarchy to display the Typical Instruments and Typical Loops folders.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Right-click the Typical Instruments folder.

    • Right-click a loop in the Typical Loops folder.

  3. Select New > Instrument.

  4. On the New Tag Number dialog, enter a tag number and select OK.

  5. On the Select Instrument Type dialog select the instrument type and select OK.

    • To display all relevant instrument types, enter a string in the Find instrument type field.

    • When creating a typical loop from a loop in the Typical Loop folder continue with the last step in this procedure.

    • Access rights for Typical Instruments are inherited from the Access Rights set in the Tag Definitions of the Unit the Typical Instruments are used in. Therefore the same Typical Instruments Tag can be used in multiple units with different access rights in different units.

Smart Instrumentation Typical Instruments do not support the Test Equipment tag class.

  6. On the Loop Name dialog, enter a loop name and select OK.

  7. On the Loop Number Properties dialog, enter the data and select OK.

  8. On the Tag Number Properties dialog, enter the data and select OK.

The new typical instrument is displayed automatically in the Reference Explorer.
