Displays sections filtered according to the option you specified on the New Composite Page dialog. You can select one or more sections and open them in the Page Editor, where you can position the sections as you require. It is possible to add the same section in different pages.

  • You can redefine your section selection in the Page Editor, where you can add or remove sections.

  • You cannot edit or regenerate sections in the Page Editor. If you need to update the headers or data field structure in your sections, use the Section Editor options before you include these sections in a composite page.

Multiply sections in generated spec

These options determine how the software multiplies sections in a generated composite spec. In a generated spec, if you assigned more than one instrument to a section, the software multiplies this section on the spec as many times as the number of assigned instruments. You set a section multiplying option only once and cannot change it after you open and save the current spec page in the Page Editor. This setting applies to all the sections you add in the current spec page.

From left to right

Multiplies sections in a generated spec from left to right and sorts the instrument in ascending order according to tag number.

From top to bottom (not available for an instrument composite page that has a header section and data section)

Multiplies sections in a generated spec from top to bottom and sorts the instruments in ascending order according to tag number.

Select sections

Allows you to select one or more sections.

Section

Displays the section name. You can modify the section name in Section Editor.

Description

Displays the section description. You can modify the section description in Section Editor.

Process Function (only available for a data section)

Displays the section process function. You do not define the section process function in Smart Instrumentation. When creating a section on the basis of an existing section, the software always retains in the new section the process function of the existing section.

Item Type

Displays the item type to which the data section belongs. You cannot change the section item type. When creating a section on the basis of an existing section, the software always retains in the new section the item type of the existing section. A header section always belongs to the Instrument item type because you can only create a header section for an instrument composite specification.

It is possible, to assign a different process function or item type to a section using an external tool, such as InfoMaker. You need to be an advanced user of InfoMaker to be able to make these changes.

Section Type

Indicates whether the section is a header or data section. A section with the Loop item type can only belong to the Data Section type because a loop composite specification does not include a header section.
