Display items are used to present data or relationships on a form. Attributes or relationships are assigned for a display item from a relational table. Users can create new display items or re-use display items from the database.

Once a display item is created, it can then be added to a section for inclusion on a form. You can search for existing display items and sections to help you complete your form.

When you select the display item type to use in the New Display Item dialog box, your selection determines the additional properties that are activated.

You can use the following display item types on a form.

  • Edge definition - to display relationships only.

  • Relationship definition - to display or update relationship definitions.

  • Interface definition - to do new instantiation of optional interfaces.

  • Property definition - to display or update properties.

You use the New/Update Item form to create new display items and update existing ones. This is accessed by updating an existing display item or selecting the Update or Create button on the Manage Display Items dialog box.

  1. In the Manage Display Items dialog box, select Create, and the New Item form displays. For more information, see Manage display items (Modified in an update).

The options on this dialog box are as follows.

  2. In the New Item form, enter a Name and Description for the item.

  3. In the Display as box, enter the display item name as it should appear on the form.

  4. If necessary, define default values for the display item by typing the values in the default value boxes. If applicable, these values are presented within the display item when the form is initially displayed.
