The following steps are required for all HxGN SDx environments. A VDS connection object must be created to connect the site to VDS.

  1. Depending on the dataset your environment uses, log on to HxGN SDx as one of the following:

    • SDx Administrator

    • System Administrator belonging to the PABSystemAdmin or PABPlantAdmin access groups

    • Data Capture Administrator

  2. Navigate to the System Administration feature set, and select Create VDS Connection.

  3. On the Create VDS Connection form, enter the required information in the Name and Description fields for the connection object.

  4. Complete the URL field, entering a fully qualified domain name to the VDS Web Server end point.

    To construct the URL, use:

    https://servername.domain.com:portnumber/vds/Plants('SiteNameData')

    where:

    • servername is the server in which the VDS Web Server is installed.

    • SiteNameData is the SDx site database name for the connection.

    • portnumber is the VDS port number. If using Update 43 or later, the default is 443. If using prior versions, the default is 22419.

You must change your VDS port back to 22419 if your VDS Application Server is installed on a server that is shared with other application servers, such as HxGN SDx using a 443 port. For more information, see Port Considerations and Security Settings.

Example: https://ServerA.xyzdomain:22419/vds/Plants('SDxVDS1Data'). In this example, the server name is ServerA that has the SDxVDS1 site database.

  5. If your environment uses a Project As-Built dataset, select a Default Filter.

  6. Select a Configuration item, and select Finish.
