If you are using SmartConverter and the SPFHotspotter.ini file to extract tags from drawing files, you must install the Desktop Client on the SmartPlant Foundation server machine before creating a new master tag discovery pattern.

When and how is the SPFHotSpotter.ini file updated?

  • The SPFHotSpotter.ini file is updated whenever any new tag discovery patterns are created or existing tag patterns are updated. The content discovery task uses the updated SPFHotspotter.ini file to extract tags.

  • After the tag discovery pattern are updated, in order to update the SPFHotSpotter.ini file, Data Capture initially checks for the SPFHotSpotter.ini file attached to the SmartConverter Control object. The SPFHotSpotter.ini file and the SmartConverter Control object must belong to same configuration type on a HxGN SDx application server.

  • If no SmartConverter Control object is related to the same configuration item, the SmartConverter Control object related to the parent configuration item is used. If no SmartConverter Control object is related to the parent configuration item, the default SmartConverter Control object related to the ConfigurationTop is used. If no SmartConverter Control object is related to the ConfigurationTop, then the SPFHotspotter.ini file available at [drive]:\Program Files (x86)\SDX\SPFSmartConverter is updated.

  1. In the Master Tag Patterns page, click Create Tag Pattern .

  2. In the Create Tag Pattern window, type a tag pattern that represents a master tag.

SHARED Tip You can type an example pattern and modify it during the master tag pattern creation.

    • The tag pattern may consist of letters, numbers, and separators.

    • Select Configure using Regular Expression to create a tag pattern using regular expressions. For more information, see Understanding regular expressions.

    • Select Extract matching double-byte characters as alias tag to create a tag pattern for extracting both single-byte characters and double-byte characters. By applying this tag pattern, the content discovery task extracts the master tag by converting the double-byte character pattern to a single-byte character pattern, and creates an alias tag with the double-byte character pattern.

  3. Click OK to open the Create Master Tag Pattern pane.

  4. Do the following in the Create Master Tag Pattern pane:

    1. Select a tag part and click Set Part to make changes to the tag part pattern.

You can add and delete either Variable or Constant in the tag part pattern, if you select Full String from the Set by list and English from the Character Range list.

    2. Select a Tag Naming System item from the drop-down list to assign it to the tag part.

      • The tag part must be related to a tag naming system.

      • You can add and delete the tag parts.

      • The same Tag Naming System item cannot be set for more than one tag part.

      • If you want to divide a single word in the tag pattern into two tag parts, use the None separator within the two tag parts and assign a tag naming system for each tag part. For example, for a tag pattern like 1409-SV10-144, you can split the part SV10 into two tag parts with a None separator between them. The first part SV can be set to tag type and 10 can be set to unit.

  • The tag extraction is done using the tag discovery patterns present in the SDx Operations database. The tags similar to the tag discovery pattern are extracted from the content file.

  • To view the new patterns in the Tag Discovery Pattern module, you must load the delivered sample load files at the plant level.

  • If a master tag pattern is created using a TNS item with an associated document attribute, the document attribute value is appended as the file part for the master tag extracted.
