The archive and purge functionality is mainly driven by vault and database sizing. Archive is a process where all files attached to selected versions of documents are copied to a specified location. During the process of archiving, the physical files are moved from the vault or database to a designated location. This can help reduce your vault and database size, improve performance, and safely preserve inactive digital information that is no longer used on a regular basis, but can be kept for future reference.

System administrators can configure the Archive Files method command with the Purge option set to either True or False. When the Purge option is set to True, all the archived file records and the physical files are deleted from the database and saved to a specified location.

Why do we purge data?

The tables in a database can grow so large that performance of your system can be affected and begin to deteriorate. So a regular purging activity in the database is an important aspect of database performance tuning.
