This section provides two examples that walk you through creating InsightView dashboards.

  • InsightView dashboard example

This example creates a basic InsightView dashboard for SDx Operations showing details relating to a specific tag in your system. Rather than creating new widgets, it uses the example widgets provided with SDx. The finished dashboard will be available from any tag's Actions menu.

  • Home screen dashboard example

This example creates a home screen dashboard. This is more advanced than the first example as it includes creating your own widgets and linking them so that a selection in one widget updates the data in another widget.

InsightView dashboards must created by users with the Business Administrator role. When the dashboard is created, the Business Administrator selects who can access it.

What is the difference between these two types of InsightView dashboard?

  • Dashboards can display data related to a selected object, allowing you to easily visualize plant information relevant to that object. For example, a dashboard can be opened from a tag's Actions menu and can display information related to that tag.

  • Home Screens can be used as a user's default home page instead of the feature sets, providing users with easy access to their tasks and a role-based view of their assets and critical information.

What is a widget?

A widget is a small window on a dashboard which displays data from a data source. Each widget can use a different data source if required.

Learn more about InsightView dashboards

The following is an example of an InsightView dashboard where the dashboard is shown in a pop-up window. It contains three types of widget. All available widget types are explained below.

A dashboard can also be configured to open as a page rather than as a pop-up window.

What types of widget are available?

Widget type

Description

IFrame (1)

An iframe widget displays another web page.

Form (2)

A form widget displays returned data in a form. In the example above, the form widget shows details of the selected tag.

Grid (3)

A grid widget displays returned data in columns similar to the Results page. In the above example, the grid widget shows work orders related to the tag.

Chart

A chart widget displays returned data in a chart. A chart can be configured so that clicking on a section of the chart displays the related data in a grid in a second page.

Count

A count widget displays a count of the number of results returned, with the details in a grid in a second page.

Spotlight

A spotlight widget displays one item of returned data scaled to fit in the widget.

To Do List

A To Do List widget displays a summary of your To Do List. You can switch between displaying tasks by configuration or object type, at the bottom of the widget. For more information, see Using a To Do List widget.

3D Quick Access

A 3D quick access widget displays a list of the filters that you can access. Click > View and Markup next to a filter to open the related 3D model.

This widget is available only for 3D Project As-Built databases.

  • In a grid widget, you can browse through the pages of results in the same way as in a results page. In a small widget, click on , to access the paging controls.

  • In grid and count widgets, the Actions menu is available for returned objects if the widget is displayed in a full page dashboard (rather than a pop-up window), and if configured by your administrator.

  • In a form widget, you can change the display to show the data in a list or in a tile. You can also sort and filter the data displayed.
