The URL Builder wizard allows you to complete the URL for a chart, count, form, grid, or spotlight widget, without having detailed knowledge of the syntax required. As you make selections in the wizard, you can see the URL being completed at the bottom of the form. A warning is shown if there are any issues. You must have permission to access the data that you want to configure in the wizard.

If you are configuring a drill down URL for a chart, only the Property Selection and Choose how the results are ordered sections can be modified.

UOM fields are not currently supported by the wizard. You can manually add UOM fields to the URL once you have completed the wizard.

  1. In Entity, select the type of data you want the URL to return.

  2. To return data related to a specific object, use Single Entity to select the object. This can be your variable, the widget on the dashboard to select the data from, or the current object.

Only widgets that do not already depend on another widget can be selected. Currently, you cannot select a chart widget.

SHARED Tip If available for the type of data selected, you can also select a navigation property.

  3. If you are creating a chart widget, select how you want to group the data in the chart. For each required property, click drag and drag it to the Selected Properties list.

SHARED Tip You can change the order in which the grouping is applied by clicking drag and dragging the selected properties up and down.

  4. If you want to configure the URL further, click blue-cog and use the buttons to configure the URL as described below. You can:

    Select the properties to include

    1. Click Select specific properties column-chooser.

    2. For each property that you want to display in the widget, click drag and drag it to the Selected Properties list.

SHARED Tip You can change the order in which the selected properties are displayed by clicking drag and dragging them up and down.

Select the properties to order the data displayed

    1. Click Order the results low-priority.

    2. Click drag and drag the properties that you want to use to order your results to the Selected Properties list.

    3. Click sort-ascending or sort-descending to order the property in either ascending or descending order.

SHARED Tip You can change the order in which the selected properties are used by clicking drag and dragging them up and down.

    Create filters

    1. Click Configure a filter manage-filter to display the filter options.

    2. Complete the boxes for the first property in this filter.

SHARED Tip You can also select to use your variable, a widget on the dashboard, or the current object as the value of the filter.

    3. Click blue-add to add additional properties to the filter. You can select:

      • Add a filter add-filter to add another property to the filter.

      • Add a filter group add-nested-filter to add a filter group to the filter. This adds properties to the filter within brackets.

    4. Select whether to make this an AND or OR filter, and complete the boxes for the new property.

    5. Continue to add properties to the filter as required.

Set the top and skip values

    • Click Select top and skip paging-settings, and set the values for each.

For dashboards, top is used to limit the number of items displayed in a page, rather than limiting the total number of items returned.

SHARED Tip You can collapse and expand each section within the URL as required.

  5. Click Save when you have finished configuring the URL.

SHARED Tip If the URL shows a warning, you can still complete the wizard. This is because the error may be caused by permissions issues, which will not affect the widget when it is used. However, you cannot complete the wizard if the URL is blank, if there is no groupby set for a chart widget, or if the defined custom variable has not been used.
