This functionality was modified in an update. For more information, see Create a new template document (modified in an update).

There are many cases in an engineering workflow where the creation of a new document requires the starting point to be based on a template document that has a predefined set of files already attached, such as a project or engineering design document.

You configure template documents based on a selected classification type. So when you create a new document, the method used automatically attaches a set of template files to the new document that match the selected classification type. The files are added without the need for any manual user intervention.

Since the template document used is specified by classification, the same files from the template can be applied to all documents created using that method. Therefore, if you do not want the document template to be used for different classifications, you must configure a separate create method for each classification type.

You can also configure a document create method to display the Template Documents tab in the attach files part of the create form, where you can select the templates from a list. This allows you to manually seed and attach a defined set of files to a new document. The attached files can also be renamed from their original file name using an option that adds the prefix name of its document parent to the file name.

SHARED Tip If the document classification is configuration-controlled, you can create the same method that uses that classification in different configurations and attach different seed files to the template documents for each configuration without changing the method.
