General

Parent System

Specifies the parent system for the object. Recently used systems that are appropriate to assign as the parent system for this object display in the list along with the Select from Workspace and Select from Model options. The most recently used system displays at the top.

The parent system of the object must have an Approval Status of Working before you can change the Parent System value. If the Approval Status of the parent system is not set to Working, this value is read-only.

Select Interactively

Turns on or off the interactive selection. When this option is on, you can select the parent object in a graphic view or any of the explorers.

Select from Workspace ICON Select from Workspace

Displays the Select Parent System Dialog with the Workspace tab open. The workspace is the subset of the active model database you specified when you started your design session. Navigate the hierarchy to select the parent system, and then select OK.

Select from Model ICON Select from Model

Displays the Select Parent System Dialog with the Model tab open. The model is all the objects in the active model database, including those that are not part of your workspace. Navigate the hierarchy to select the parent system, and then select OK.

Name

Specifies the name of the selected object. If the name is too long to entirely display in the box, point to the box to display the complete name as a tool tip. If the name is not defined by a rule, displays. If this name is generated by a naming rule, displays. If you enter a name in this box, Smart 3Dx automatically changes the naming rule to User Defined.

Type

Specifies the type of coordinate system to place.

Grids

Uses East, North, and Elevation to define the three coordinate system axes. Coordinate system can only be rotated with respect to the Elevation axis (Z-axis). Naming rules for the elevation and grid plane names generally use E, N, and EL. Grid lines are placed by default.

Ship

Uses X, Y, and Z to define the three coordinate system axes. Naming rules for the elevation (Z) and grid plane names generally use F, L, and D. Grid lines are not placed by default but can be placed if you want.

Rectangular

Coordinate system has rectangular grid lines.

Cylindrical

Coordinate system has cylindrical grid lines.

Both

Coordinate system has both rectangular and cylindrical grid lines.

Global Origin

Specifies the origin location of the coordinate system that you are placing relative to the global coordinate system.

Axis

Specifies the axis that you want to use to define the rotation of the coordinate system that you are placing. You can select the North, South, East, or West axis for a Grids type, or X, -X, Y. or -Y for a Ship type.

Y Axis Direction

Displays or sets the bearing angle for the axis. This box displays the bearing angle defined by the origin and the point that you defined in the Axis box. Valid values are 0 to 90.

Position and Orientation

Com_Move ICON Move

Moves the selected object.

S3D_Point_Start ICON Move From Position (Ctrl + T)

Specifies the point from which to start the move.

S3D_Point_End ICON Move To Position (T)

Specifies the point at which to finish the move.

S3D_Grids_CoordinateSystems_XYZ No Constraint (CTRL + 6)

Objects are free to move in any direction.

S3D_CartesianCoordinate_East_X ICON East

Y-axis and Z-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the X-axis.

Y Axis ICON North

X-axis and Z-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the Y-axis.

S3D_CartesianCoordinate_Elevation_Z ICON Elevation

X-axis and Y-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the Z-axis.

Plane Elevation Elevation Plane (CTRL + 1)

Z-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the X-Y coordinate plane.

Plane East-West East-West Plane (CTRL + 3)

X-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the Y-Z coordinate plane.

Plane North-South North-South Plane (CTRL + 2)

Y-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the X-Z coordinate plane.

Rotate (Ctrl + R)

Starts rotation for the selected object. See Rotate equipment.

Press RIGHT and click Rotate to rotate the object 90 degrees clockwise about the active axis.

Press LEFT and click Rotate to rotate the object 90 degrees counter-clockwise about the active axis.

Angle Step

Specifies the angle about the axis that the object rotates when you select Step Rotation S3D_Angle_Step. Enter a value in the Angle Step box or select a blank space in the control panel to remove the input focus from the box.

Press G to set the focus to the active graphic view.

Press CTRL+LEFT to rotate the object clockwise one step about the Axis.

Press CTRL+SHIFT+LEFT to rotate the object counter-clockwise one step about the Axis.

S3D_Angle_Step Step Rotation

Rotates the object corresponding to the defined angle one step about the active axis. This control is not available if Angle Step is undefined or is set to zero.

Select a blank space in the control panel to remove the input focus, and then press G to set the focus to the active graphic view.

Press SHIFT to rotate the object counter-clockwise.

S3D_CartesianCoordinate_East_X ICON Active Axis for Rotation (UP arrow)

Specifies the axis about which Smart 3Dx rotates the object. The available options include: S3D_CartesianCoordinate_East_X ICON X-Axis, Y Axis ICON Y-Axis, and S3D_CartesianCoordinate_Elevation_Z ICON Z-Axis.

This option does not display for grids.

S3D_Target_Reposition ICON Reposition Rotate Origin

Moves the rotation triad to a position that you specify. The rotation triad indicates the point about which the rotation occurs. Select a point in the graphic view to specify the new location.

S3D_Target_RepositionToOrigin ICON Reset Rotate Origin

Moves the rotation triad origin to the origin of the selected object.

If keyboard shortcuts are not working when you move or rotate objects, select the application title bar to reset the focus. Smart 3Dx indicates focus by displaying the bright blue border.

Grids

Com_Grid_Add ICON Grids

Opens the Grids Dialog that is used to define planes and grid lines locations for this coordinate system.

Completion

Com_Cancel Cancel (ESC)

Cancels all changes and exits the command.

Finish (CTRL + ENTER)

Saves all changes and exits the command.

Finish Modify ICON Finish and Modify (CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER)

Saves all changes, and then selects the objects for modification.
