  1. Open Precision Input Precision Input ICON from the View Manipulation Toolbar.

  2. Select Reposition Target S3D_Target_Reposition ICON, and then place the target at the point from which to measure. For example, the corner of a structure.

  3. Select Structural Tab > Linear Member Command to display the Place Linear Member Controls.

  4. Define the parent system for the member.

  5. Define the member type and cross section information.

  6. Use the distance boxes to define the precise distance from the target that you need for the member start location. In this example, the start of the member needs to be placed 1000 mm from the target in the X-axis.

  7. Select anywhere in the graphic view to accept the start position.

  8. Specify the member end. Use the SmartSketch glyphs, such as North and Point Along, to position the member end.
