Use the commands on this dialog to draw 2D shapes in the model.

SHARED Tip Press BACKSPACE to undo your last action.

Navigate Backwards

Returns you to the command that activated the sketching commands. Unless you click Accept Com_Checkmark, any sketches or edits to sketches that you have made are discarded.

Draw

Select one of the Draw commands to draw in the model.

S3D_Line Line

Draws a single line or a series of connected lines. When you draw a series of lines, the second point of one line is the first point of the next line. Select the Line command again to exit draw line.

Place a Circle Circle

Draws a circle using a center point and the radius.

S3D_Ellipse_By_Center_Point Ellipse

Draws an ellipse using the center point and two edge points. The center point and the next point define half the length of the major axis and the rotation angle. The last point defines half the length of the minor axis.

Construction Graphics Arc command Arc

Draws an arc using three points. The first two points define the arc ends. The third point defines a point on the arc.

Rectangle

Draws a rectangle using three points. The first two points define the width and rotation angle of the rectangle. The third point defines the height.

Rectangular Point Fillet Fillet Rectangle

Draws a fillet rectangle using four points. The first two points define the width and rotation angle of the rectangle. The third point defines the height. The fourth point defines the fillet radius.

S3D_Fillet Fillet

Creates a rounded corner, or fillet, between two elements using a radius you specify.

Fillet Element

Dimensions

S3D_Length Distance Between

Constrains two elements to a specified distance apart. If you move one element, the second element moves to maintain the specified distance.

Angle

Constrains two elements to a specified angle between them.

S3D_Measure_Radius Radius

Constrains the radius of an element to a distance that you specify.

Relationships

SSK_Parallel Parallel

Makes two lines parallel.

Parallel Elements S3Dx

SSK_Perpendicular Perpendicular

Makes two elements perpendicular. You can make two lines, a line and an arc, or a line and a circle perpendicular.

Perpendicular Sketch

SSK_CenterPoint Concentric

Makes an arc or circle concentric with another arc or circle.

Concentric Relationship S3Dx

S3D_Tangent Tangent

Makes two elements tangential. You can make two circles or arcs tangential. You can also make a circle, or an arc, and a line tangential.

Tangent S3Dx

Lock

Locks an element from being modified. To unlock an element, select Modify Com_Symbol_Edit, select the lock glyph next to the element in the graphic view, and press DELETE.

S3D_Grids_Line Axial

Makes a line parallel to an axis of the current active coordinate system.

SSK_Intersection Coincident

Constrains the endpoints of two elements together. Moving either element causes the end of the other element to stretch to maintain the connection.

Change

Com_Symbol_Edit Modify

Activates modify mode. Use this command to change or delete elements that you have drawn or relationships that you have defined.

To modify an element, click Modify Com_Symbol_Edit, select the element, select an element handle, and move the handle to the new location.

To delete a constraint or relationship, click Modify Com_Symbol_Edit, select the indicator ( or , for example) in the graphic view, and press DELETE.

S3D_Extend Extend

Extends an element until it intersects with another object that you select.

Extend Element

Com_Item_Trim Trim

Shortens an element to where it intersects with another object that you select. Select the element on the side to trim.

Trim Element AGIF

Com_Item_Split ICON Split

Adds a modification handle (vertex) at the point that you specify along a line or an arc.

Com_Move ICON Move

Moves an element to a new location. You must select Modify Com_Symbol_Edit and select an element before you can select Move.

S3D_Point_Start ICON Move From

Specifies the point from which to start the move.

S3D_Point_End ICON Move To

Specifies the point at which to finish the move.

Rotate

Rotates an element. You must select Modify Com_Symbol_Edit and select an element before you can select Rotate.

Angle Step

Specifies the angle about the axis that the object rotates when you select Step Rotation S3D_Angle_Step. Enter a value in the Angle Step box or select a blank space in the control panel to remove the input focus from the box.

Press G to set the focus to the active graphic view.

Press CTRL+LEFT to rotate the object clockwise one step about the Axis.

Press CTRL+SHIFT+LEFT to rotate the object counter-clockwise one step about the Axis.

S3D_Angle_Step Step Rotation

Rotates the object corresponding to the defined angle one step about the active axis. This control is not available if Angle Step is undefined or is set to zero.

Select a blank space in the control panel to remove the input focus, and then press G to set the focus to the active graphic view.

Press SHIFT to rotate the object counter-clockwise.

Sketching Options

Com_Link ICON Coincident Constraints to External References

Select to constrain sketching elements to objects in the model. Constrained sketched elements move when the model object moves.

Com_Eye_Show Constraint Annotations

Shows or hides the constraint indicators in the graphic view.

S3D_Grids_Line Automatic Placement of Axial Constraints

Select to constrain lines automatically at placement to be parallel to an axis of the current active coordinate system.

Working Constraint

S3D_Grids_CoordinateSystems_XYZ No Constraint (CTRL + 6)

Objects are free to move in any direction.

S3D_CartesianCoordinate_East_X ICON East

Y-axis and Z-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the X-axis.

Y Axis ICON North

X-axis and Z-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the Y-axis.

S3D_CartesianCoordinate_Elevation_Z ICON Elevation

X-axis and Y-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the Z-axis.

Plane Elevation Elevation Plane (CTRL + 1)

Z-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the X-Y coordinate plane.

Plane East-West East-West Plane (CTRL + 3)

X-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the Y-Z coordinate plane.

Plane North-South North-South Plane (CTRL + 2)

Y-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the X-Z coordinate plane.

Select Interactively

Enables you to select the line or plane constraint from the graphic view.

Com_Reset Reset

Deletes all elements that you placed or undoes any modifications that you made to the sketch. The sketch is returned to the state when you activated the sketching controls.

Com_Checkmark Accept

Validates and accepts the shapes that you drew, or the edits that you made to a sketch, as the shape to use in the calling command. Click Navigate Backwards to return to the calling command.
