Place a volume along a path

Displays when you select the Path Command Shape Along a Path ICON on the Space Management Tab.

Volumes

Select the type of volume to place.

S3D_Volume_By_Two_Points Two Points Command

Places a volume based on two points that represent opposite vertices of the volume to place.

S3D_Volume_By_Four_Points Four Points Command

Places a volume based on three points that define a base plane and a fourth point that defines the elevation or depth.

S3D_Volume_By_Select Selection Command

Places a rectangular volume that encloses a selected set of objects in the model.

S3D_Volume_Grid Grids Command

Creates one or more volumes based on a minimum of six selected grid planes.

S3D_Eq_Shp_Default Shape Command

Places a volume based on a pre-defined volume shape you select. You provide dimensional information to define the shape size.

Shape Along a Path ICON Path Command

Places a volume along a path. Specify a cross section, and then create a 3D path to extrude the shape along the path.

Volume Bound by Spaces Bound by Spaces Command

Creates a volume bound by multiple spaces that you select.

Merge Merge Command

Merges multiple existing volumes into one volume.

General

Catalog Part Number

Specifies the identifier (such as a part number or class) associated with the object to place. Recently used items are available in the list.

Com_Browser Browse Catalog

Displays the catalog associated with your model. Move through the hierarchy to find the objects you need or type the name of the object in the Search box. See Select from Catalog Dialog.

Space Folder

Specifies the space folder for the volume. The list displays recently used space folders that are appropriate to assign for the new volume, and the Select from Workspace and Select from Model options. The most recently used space folder displays at the top of the list.

Select from Workspace ICON Select from Workspace

Displays the Select Space Folder Dialog with the Workspace tab open. The workspace is the subset of the active model database you specified when you started your design session. Navigate the hierarchy to select the space folder, and then click OK.

Select from Model ICON Select from Model

Displays the Select Space Folder Dialog with the Model tab open. The model is all of the objects in the active model database, including those that are not part of your workspace. Navigate the hierarchy to select the space folder, and then click OK.

Select Parent System Hierarchy

Turns on or off the interactive selection. When this option is on, you can select the space folder in a graphic view or any of the explorers.

Name

Specifies the name of the selected volume. If the name is too long to display in the text box, point to the text box to display the complete name as a tool tip. If the name is not defined by a rule, User Defined displays. If this name is generated by a naming rule, Naming Rule displays. If you type a name in this box, Smart 3Dx automatically changes the naming rule to User Defined.

Placement Inputs

Sketch Path Sketch Path

Displays the Sketching Controls.

Cross-Section

Draws the shape along the path you select from the list. The dimension properties for the cross-section display when you select a standard cross-section from the list. You can define the dimension properties before drawing the path, or change them after drawing the path. The available cross-section shapes include:
