Synchronize Workspace with Catalog updates model objects in the current workspace based on changes to the catalog database, including property, specification, and symbol changes. You must review all changes to catalog definitions in the catalog database before you complete this command. Typically, you use this command with a refreshed workspace.

Use Synchronize Workspace with Catalog to update out-of-date model occurrences that were not updated by Synchronize Model with Catalog.

You must run Synchronize Model with Catalog first and select only the Mark out-of-date occurrences option. The software does not display any items in the grid when:

  • You run Synchronize Model with Catalog first with Mark out-of-date occurrences and Update out-of-date occurrences selected.

  • You run Synchronize Model with Catalog first with Update out-of-date occurrences selected.

  • You run Synchronize Workspace with Catalog first instead of Synchronize Model with Catalog.

You can load the workspace and then run the Synchronize Workspace with Catalog command in the workspace. The software loads the out-of-date objects from the current workspace, where you can examine and update the objects.

The catalog database contains reference data for placing parts. The workspace contains all instances of parts. When the catalog definition of a part changes, Synchronize Workspace with Catalog changes the graphics and properties for instances of the part in the entire workspace. When you update many out-of-date occurrences at the same time using Synchronize Workspace with Catalog, the software updates the objects but does not support reviewing individual changes. These changes can alter relationships between existing objects in the workspace. This command carries the risk of inserting inconsistencies and other errors into the workspace and must be used with caution. However, it is essential to run this command to avoid corruptions in the workspace.

SHARED Tip Select Preview in model to review changes to object graphics before committing to the update. This option is not supported if you updated a large quantity of out-of-date occurrences.

Permissions

Prior to beginning the synchronization process, the software checks to determine if there are any permission groups to which you do not have full control or write access. Such entries appear dimmed in the grid.

The software does not detect write access that is granted to an individual as a member of a group. Your access must be individually listed for the software to accurately evaluate the level of access.

Search

Specifies part of the message to find. Smart 3Dx searches the messages for any that contain the characters that you type. For example, type length to find any messages containing that word.

Fit

Fits the objects associated with the selected records in the active graphic view. When you turn off this option, the software does not fit objects associated with additional records you select in the grid.
