You must perform this step if you want to import data from a catalog file in XML format. In this step, you create a job with required parameters against which you will upload the XML files for import purposes and then you will run the import process.

The utility for defining an import job can be accessed from the CMS menu.

CMS > XC30 CMS XML Import > XC3010 Manage Import Jobs

The dialog box has the standard grid view of Smart Reference Data and displays all defined import jobs and their details.

The following standard fields appear in this view:

  • Job Code: The name given to a particular import job.

  • Run #: A sequence attached to a particular import job. If you want to use the same job name and want to run it again changing some parameters, a new (next sequence) is generated and assigned to the job.

  • Job Type: Determines what data this job is going to import. The valid values are:

    • STRUCTURE: Import only structure data; that is, the import is going to create a class system and class hierarchy.

    • ARTICLE: Import of idents and their property values to a particular class system.

    • STRUCT_ARTICLE1: Import of class system structures and articles both (data being in a single XML file).

    • STRUCT_ARTICLE2: Import of class system structures and articles both (data being in a separate XML file).

  • Job Status: This is a read-only field and displays the current status of the job.

  • Job Goal: Tells the objective of the import job. The following are valid values –

    • PARSE_ONLY: Only parsing of XML file(s)

    • IMPORT: Only import of data.

    • PARSE_IMPORT: Parsing of XML file(s) and import of data.

  • Job Stage: A read-only field that displays the current stage of the job.

  • Started By: A read-only field displays the user who has started the job.

  • Job Start Date: Date and time job was started.

  • Configuration Code Structure: If the job type is STRUCTURE, select a structure configuration from the mapping configurations.

  • Configuration Code Article: If the job type is ARTICLE, select an article configuration from the mapping configurations.

  • Remarks: Text entered by the user while creating the job.

  • System Remarks: Text entered by the software at various stages while running the job.

  • Transaction Step (Article): The number of articles imported before the database commit operation occurs. If no value is specified in this field, the commit operation happens at the end of the entire process.

  • Exception Handling (Article): This field can have the following values: C (Continue) or E (Error). These values indicate how the software should behave when it encounters an error. If the value is set to C, the software continues to examine the next article for processing. Otherwise, the software returns the error it encountered, and no further processing is done for the job.

  • Log Severity: You can select the type of log messages to appear.

New Job

A new import job can be created either by using the shortcut menu available on the column displaying row numbers (left header column of grid) or by using the Add Row toolbar button after turning the grid into edit mode.

On the shortcut menu, you can use either Add Row or Duplicate Row to create a new row in the grid. The Add Row command creates a blank row whereas the Duplicate Row command creates a new row with the details of the currently selected row. The Add Row toolbar button also creates a blank row in the grid.

Once a new row is created in the grid, you must enter values for the following mandatory fields: Job Code, Job Type, and Job Goal. The job Run # value is automatically computed by the software. The rest of the fields are not mandatory to create a job. The values for those fields can be supplied later on the Import Job Details dialog box.

Read-Only Job

Once a job is executed, regardless of its result, the job record becomes read-only and hence no parameters are allowed to be altered. If you need to run the same kind of job, you must create another job (Duplicate Row). The read-only job records are indicated by a lock icon on the left header column of the grid.
