General
Catalog Part
Specifies the identifier (such as a part number or class) associated with the object to place. Recently used items are available in the list.
Browse Catalog
Displays the catalog associated with your model. Move through the hierarchy to find the objects you need or type the name of the object in the Search box. See Select from Catalog Dialog.

Parent System
Specifies the parent system for the object. Recently used systems that are appropriate to assign as the parent system for this object display in the list along with the Select from Workspace and Select from Model options. The most recently used system displays at the top.
The parent system of the object must have an Approval Status of Working before you can change the Parent System value. If the Approval Status of the parent system is not set to Working, this value is read-only.

Displays the Select Parent System Dialog with the Workspace tab open. The workspace is the subset of the active model database you specified when you started your design session. Navigate the hierarchy to select the parent system, and then select OK.
Select from Model
Displays the Select Parent System Dialog with the Model tab open. The model is all the objects in the active model database, including those that are not part of your workspace. Navigate the hierarchy to select the parent system, and then select OK.
Name
Specifies the name of the selected object. If the name is too long to entirely display in the box, point to the box to display the complete name as a tool tip. If the name is not defined by a rule, displays. If this name is generated by a naming rule, displays. If you enter a name in this box, Smart 3Dx automatically changes the naming rule to User Defined.

Press SHIFT to rotate the object counter-clockwise.
Active Axis for Rotation (UP arrow)
Specifies the axis about which Smart 3Dx rotates the object. The available options include: X-Axis, Y-Axis, and Z-Axis.
This option does not display for grids.
Reposition Rotate Origin
Moves the rotation triad to a position that you specify. The rotation triad indicates the point about which the rotation occurs. Select a point in the graphic view to specify the new location.
Reset Rotate Origin
Moves the rotation triad origin to the origin of the selected object.
If keyboard shortcuts are not working when you move or rotate objects, select the application title bar to reset the focus. Smart 3Dx indicates focus by displaying the bright blue border.
Constraints
Select
Selects an existing constraint so that you can make modifications.
Add Constraint
Adds a constraint to the selected object. Select a constraint from the list. The type of constraint you select displays in the Relationships box and the Type box. The following options are available:
Mate
The mate relationship is applied between a surface of the equipment and another equipment surface, structural surface, elevation plane, or grid plane. The surfaces are constrained to be parallel with the indicated offset distance between them. The normal vector pointing out from the surface of one solid points toward the other solid:
The mate relationship can also be applied between the axis of a cylindrical surface and a planar surface. The offset in this situation is applied in the direction of the surface normal. You can use this relationship to orient the equipment's nozzle axis parallel to a wall and offset from the wall a given distance.
Align
The align relationship makes the axes of two cylindrical surfaces collinear or constrains two planar surfaces to be parallel. When planar surfaces are aligned, the surface normals point in the same direction with the indicated offset distance between them:
Parallel
Parallel relationships can be set between the following objects:
Edge to planar surface
Surface to surface
Edge to edge
Edge to axis (implied axis of cylindrical objects)
Axis (implied axis of cylindrical objects) to axis (implied axis of cylindrical objects)
In terms of behavior, the parallel relationship is similar to align. However, while the align relationship rotates and moves an equipment object, the parallel relationship only rotates the object. As such, if you orient a pump by setting a particular nozzle axis parallel to a nozzle axis on a different equipment object, only the orientation of the equipment is affected, not its location. This option is not available for Designed Equipment.
E/W Distance
Positions and locks the first part at the specified offset along the X-axis from the second part.
N/S Distance
Positions and locks the first part at the specified offset along the Y-axis from the second part.
Vertical Distance
Positions and locks the first part at the specified offset along the Z-axis from the second part.
Connect
The connect relationship forces a point on an object to be coincident with a point on another object, such as a piece of equipment, structure, piping part, or arbitrary coordinate in space. The software adds the connect relationship to the relationship list only if the two points connected are both nozzles. Otherwise, the two points are made coincident, but no relationship is saved to the database. Offsets are disabled when establishing a connect relationship.
Press F3 to turn on or off the Surface Locate option. This option makes it easier to create Connect relationships.
Mate to Tangent Plane
Using the mate to tangent plane relationship, you can create a tangent plane at the intersection of a user-defined vector and a selected surface. You establish the relationship by first selecting a reference on an equipment object and then selecting two points in the model to define a vector and identify a surface (in the model). The vector is used to locate an intersection point in the model. A plane tangent to the surface (at the intersection point) is created and used as the mating surface.
Both the vector and the surface are associative inputs; if you modify the referenced surface, Smart 3Dx recomputes the point and the tangent plane.
Reset Constraint
Resets the selected constraint to the last setting.
Remove Constraint
Deletes a constraint from the selected object.
Type
Displays the type of the selected constraint on the object, and any available options for the selected constraint. For example, the Vertical Distance constraint provides the following options:
