Places column footings, selected from the catalog, in the model. A footing is used to transfer the loads of a column to the ground or sub-structure and to provide mounting stability for the supported column. You can place footings before or after placing columns in the model.

There are two types of footings:

  • A single footing is related to a single column.

    Single Column Footing

  • A combined footing is related to multiple columns and therefore require a minimum of two columns for placement. If you remove columns from a combined footing such that a single column remains, the software changes the combined footing to a single-type footing that supports the remaining column. When placing a combined footing with a merged pier, all columns must have the same bottom elevation. The software places key points and control points you can select as layout points in drawings on combined footings. Key points are placed at the vertices of slabs and piers. Control points are placed at column locations.

    Combined Column Footing

You can associate the bottom elevation of the footing with a reference plane. If the reference plane moves, the footing height adjusts automatically to the new elevation of the plane. Not all footing types support associated planes. Footing types that do not support associated planes have a Number of Supporting value of zero in the catalog.

There are two footing placement methods:

  • Selecting existing columns in the model to define the footing location. Use this option when you model columns before footings.

  • Defining points in the model to define the footing location. Use this option when you model footings before columns.
