This Hanger and Supports library implements special rules that let you change the steel standards for all the supports in a library. When you select a steel member from the supports in the S3D support library, you can easily change the steel standard for the member with a simple bulkload. The steel part numbers are available in the DDS_FrameSteelEqual worksheet and the set of rules are available in the DDS_Rules spreadsheet of the Assembly workbook. Each support that uses a steel part has a property that defines the steel standard to use. This property enables you to set the steel standard for each support. You can specify the standards initially when you load the supports in the catalog, however, you can change the standards using Add, Modify, or Delete commands during bulkload. When you place a new support, update all the existing supports in the model before you use the new parts.
Excel Data
The DDS_FrameSteelEqual worksheet in the Assembly workbook contains an entry for each steel part that is used with the Swap Steel functionality.
Name - A unique identifier for a row of data. Do not duplicate names.
SteelID - Specifies the steel standard to be added to the Assembly workbook. Every steel standard must have an entry in the workbook so that the assembly does not fail.
SteelStandard - Specifies the standard to which a part belongs. The rule uses the SteelStandard to get the correct part from the table.
-
You must load the steel standard in the Catalog.
-
You must bulkload both the Structural Steel and RichSteel Part workbooks when you load a steel library.
PartNumber - Specifies the part number for the steel member and must be from the Rich Steel Part workbook. The file name for the workbook typically starts with HS_Str-. For example, the file name for AISC LRFD 3.1 RichSteel workbook is HS_Str-AISC-LRFD-3.1.xls.
The part number must match exactly with the part in the workbook. To add new entries to the DDS_FrameSteelEqual table, copy the part numbers directly from the steel part workbook.
DDS_Rules Worksheet
The DDS_Rules worksheet in the Assembly workbook contains the rules to get a steel part.
RuleName - Specifies the name of the rule. Every property that is used to add a steel part has a separate rule. For example, the rule to add a steel part in the Leg1Part property of a Hold Down support is Leg1SteelByID.
RuleDescription - Specifies the description of the rule.
RuleType - Specifies the type of the rule and the value for RuleType must always be 5, for example ProgID.
RuleValue - Specifies where to find the program that gets the steel part. Each of the properties that is used to add a steel part must have a separate program.

Description |
Implementation Details |
---|---|---|
IJUAhsSteelStandard:: SteelStandard |
Specifies the steel standard to use for the support. You must load the Steel Standard into the catalog. You must also bulkload both the Structural Steel and RichSteel Part workbooks. |
Units for the steel standard are specified in the hsSteelStandard worksheet of HS_System_Codelist. |
IJUAhsLeg1::Leg1Part |
Specifies the steel part for the Leg 1 of the support. |
The steel part value must match the SteelID values from the DDS_FrameSteelEqual worksheet. |
IJUAhsLeg1Rl::Leg1Rule |
Specifies the property that determines the rule to use to get the Leg1Part. Specifies whether the RepadLength or the RepadLengthRule attribute is used to determine the Repad length. This attribute uses HsSelection codelist from the workbook S_S3DAssy_Codelist.xls. |
The rule must be from the DDS_Rules worksheet. For example, Leg1SteelByID. |
The following properties are used to set the steel ID, rule, and rule type:
Example for modifying the steel standard
The following example uses the AISC-LRFD-3.1 Steel Library to explain how a steel swap works. A HoldDown assembly DDS_HD_Legs_01 uses a number of steel parts and the following table lists the property name, steel ID, and the part number when using the AISC standard:
When you place the support in the model, the steel section parts in the assembly are listed in the workspace explorer:
-
Verify that each SteelID used in the support has a valid part number in the DDS_FrameSteelEqual worksheet.
-
Prefix the new rows with A and modified rows with M.
-
Change the following in the DDS_HD_Legs worksheet:
-
SteelStandard property to EURO-OTUA-2002
-
L2 to L1 for Leg1Part and Leg2Part
-
Add M to the row
-
-
Use the Add, Modify, or Delete records in existing catalog mode to bulkload the workbook using the Bulkload Reference Data tool.
-
Verify that the Euro-OTUA-2002 steel library is available in the catalog.
Every Rich Hanger Steel has an associated StructCrossSections workbook. Verify that the StructCrossSections workbook is available prior to bulkloading the Rich Steel workbook.
-
Replace or refresh the support.
