This workflow describes two simultaneous edit sessions of the same original project using duplicate databases. The two edit sessions then combine the edit session data to provide a single project.
-
Create a new project. For the rest of this example, this new project is referred to as the original project.
-
Place a comment with the following attributes:
Text = Example workflow comment Original 1
-
Creator = User
-
Discipline = Engineer
-
Background = orange
-
-
Save all the comment Attributes and Symbology values as defaults by clicking Save as Defaults on the respective tabs.
-
Place another comment with the following attributes:
Text = Example workflow comment Original 2
-
Save and copy the project database to a different folder so that you can edit it later to simulate parallel edit sessions.
-
In a real-world scenario, you might copy the project to two different locations for parallel reviewing and editing. For the purposes of this example, leave the database as it is and perform a separate comment edit session using the attributes of the comments.
-
The current project database can now be thought of as project one.
-
-
Place another comment with the following attributes:
Text = Example workflow comment Project 1-1
-
Discipline = Scheduling
-
Background = blue
-
-
Save all the comment Attributes and Symbology values as defaults by clicking Save as Defaults on their respective tabs.
-
Save and copy this project database to a folder different than the one used previously for saving the original project database.
-
Exit the project.
-
Replace the current project database with the first database you saved after you added the original comments.
The project is now project two.
-
Open project two.
-
Place another comment with the following attributes:
Text = Example workflow comment Project 2-1
-
Discipline = Inspector
-
Background = green
-
-
Save all the project Attributes and Symbology values as defaults by clicking Save as Defaults on their respective tabs.
-
Place another comment with the following attributes:
Text = Example workflow comment Project 2-2.
-
Import the following comment:
-
Click File > Import > Comments.
-
Select the second saved database file that represents project two comments.
-
Select the comment with “Project 1-1” in its text field.
-
Verify that the comment append and renumbering check box is selected in the Import dialog box.
-
Click Import.
-
Click Close.
-
The imported comment becomes the highest numbered comment during the renumbering import.
