Standard Database for Smart Reference Data Version
12.5

After hosting the SDB Merge Tool successfully, you can access the tool in a web browser to merge data from the SDB 12.5 delivered source database to the target database.

For example, the tool URL is http://<servername>/SDBMerge/Index.html

You can access the tool URL from Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

To login to the SDB Merge Tool, follow the following steps:

  1. In a web browser, open the SDB Merge Tool.

  2. Select the Source Database and Target Database details as follows:

    • Source Database - is the SDB 12.5 delivered database. This can be created using the SDB Setup wizard, which is delivered with SDB installation.

    • Target Database - is the customer database, which is to be migrated from SDB 12.3 or SDB 12.4 to SDB 12.5.

The databases for use in the SDB Merge Tool need to be configured by the administrator using the SDB Merge Tool Configurator tool. For more information on how to configure the database connections, see Set up database connections using SDB Merge Tool Configurator.

  3. Enter the SRD username and associated password for the respective database connections.

You must have the PUBLIC or SUPERUSER role to proceed.

  4. Select Connect.

  5. Choose the data to merge from the list:

    • Select Standard Reference Data to merge SDB data into the target database.

    • Select Smart Materials to merge SMAT data in SDB into the target database.

  6. Select the source and target product groups:

    • Source Product Group as SDB

    • Target Product Group as the SDB or Non-SDB product group

  7. Select a language from the Language list, and then select Login.

  8. If you selected Smart Materials in step 5, then the complete merge of SMPL_SMAT project data to the target database is initiated.

Ensure you have a backup of the target database because the changes made by this step cannot be reversed.

  9. If you selected Standard Reference Data in step 5, then you are prompted with a menu. From the menu, select any of the following modes:

    • Differences not shown in hierarchy - Select this option to directly go to the merging operations. In this mode, differences are not shown in the hierarchical tree view.

    • Show differences in hierarchy - Select this option to view differences in the hierarchical tree view. It may take several hours to generate this data the first time this mode is selected. When you select this option, the following options are displayed:

      • Non-CMS Data

      • CMS Data

      • English

      • Industry

If you select Show Differences in hierarchy for the first time, you are provided with the options:

    • To perform the comparison of CMS data and Non-CMS data separately or together based on requirements.

    • To view differences between the source and target databases in a hierarchical tree, specifically related to the English and Industry columns.

After comparison, the following sub-modes are displayed:

    • Selective Merge of Data - By selecting this mode, you can merge a specific set of data selectively from the source to the target database. For example, if you want to merge only a few commodity codes from the source database into the target database, you can use this mode.

    • Complete Merge of Data - If you select this mode, the complete merge of data will be initiated from the source to the target database without any manual effort. All the Source Only and Difference records will be merged from the source database into the target database. All the log files related to this process will be generated in the Merge Tool logs folder.

Complete Merge of Data is not enabled for SDB to NON-SDB.

If you choose to perform only the Non-CMS comparison in step 9, you will have the following options:

    • Perform the comparison of CMS data

    • Perform selective or complete merge of Non-CMS data (Comparison completed)
