Dispatching can be initiated by narrowing the work order activities for which you are interested. This can be accomplished, on this screen, by starting with the work order activity list or the map. Obviously, if you have specific work order/activity criteria for which you are searching then you may want to start by filtering your list. However, if you are doing location-based dispatching then the map would be a more useful place to start. Of course, a hybrid method can be used where the list is first filtered based on criteria such as priority or complexity, then the remaining activities can be dispatched based on crew/employee location relative to these activities using the map.

One such scenario is the following:

  1. Dispatcher views GIS Map WO Dispatching screen with all sections populated with data.

  2. Dispatcher wants to dispatch HIGH priority work order activities first. Therefore, they execute a saved Dataspy which shows only HIGH priority work order activities in the list.

  3. Because the work order activity list only shows HIGH priority records, all work order activity icons associated to work order activities with different priorities will be removed from the map.

  4. Because all crews and employees in the field have performed a recent sync on their device, the EAM server is able to locate all of them on the map, along with the HIGH priority work to be dispatched.

  5. Dispatcher sees Field Operations Crew #1 located near 2 of these HIGH priority work order activities on the map.

  6. Dispatcher left clicks on the first work order activity icon, then ctrl-clicks the second icon. Both icons are now selected and made larger on the map.

    • Alternatively, the Dispatcher could have used the Select WOs By tool below the map to select both work order activities on the map.

  7. Because work order activity icons are selected on the map, the system will select the corresponding 2 work order activities in the grid and re-sort the grid, so they are at the top of the grid for easy viewing.

  8. Because Crew #1 is qualified to perform both work order activities and the activity trades are matched by the crew employees, the system continues to display Crew #1 on the map and in the Available Crews section.

  9. Dispatcher can right click on Crew #1 on the map or click the Dispatch (+) icon on their card in the Available Crew section to dispatch the crew.

This is just one example of how a Dispatcher might use this screen to perform that function. See Screen Options section for additional features that make dispatching the right employee/crew for the job more efficient.
