The map area displays an ESRI GIS map service in the same way as it is displayed on the GIS Map Search screen. Of course, the functionality/options available here are tailored to the dispatching function.

In addition to basemap and map features displayed, the system will identify the following at the proper location on the map:

  • Work order activities

  • Employee locations

  • Crew locations

An icon is used to represent the location of a work order activity based on the equipment (i.e., feature) location on the map. Since work orders and activities are equipment (i.e., feature) specific, it is possible to have more than one open work order on a single equipment. Therefore, in this scenario the system will place a number next to the work order activity icon indicating the number of activities represented by the icon. In other words, a single icon on the map can represent multiple records in the grid.

Work order activities can be selected for dispatching in a couple of ways:

  1. Selected from the list, as discussed in the WO Activity List section.

  2. Selected from the map.

If the activity is selected in the list, then the corresponding map icon is enlarged (i.e., selected). The reverse is also true. If the work order icon on the map is selected, it will be enlarged and the corresponding records in the list will be selected.

A new tool below the map can be used to select work orders on the map. Note that any time a work order activity is selected in the list because of a work order activity icon being selected on the map, the system will resort the list, so the selected records are displayed at the top of the list for quick reference.

  • The map section will be displayed on this screen even if there is no map to be displayed. This is because the screen is currently intended to be used with a map. However, as mentioned already, the screen can still be used for dispatching without a map.

  • The WO activity icon for work orders whose equipment is linear will be displayed on the map at the work order From Point location.

    • Linear WO activities for the same equipment will only be represented on the map at the same location if the From Point values are the same.

    • From Point, From Point UOM, From Point Geographical Ref., From Point Ref. Description, To Point, To Point UOM, To Point Geographical Ref., and To Point Ref. Description have been added as grid fields.

  • The work order activity icon color can be configured to be based on work order Priority. If color is not configured, it will be gray in color. See Work Order Priority GIS Dispatch Ranking for details.

  • By default, if the work order activity icon is left clicked on, the system will select the icon, enlarge it, then select the corresponding record in the grid. There is no need to use the map Select By tool to select icons on the map. Also, the CTRL+click method can be used in this way to select more than one icon on the map.

  • Employees and Crews will only be displayed on the map if they are displayed in the Available Employees, Available Crews, or Dispatched Crews/Employees sections.

  • Each employee or crew represented on the map will be represented by a default icon (i.e., there is 1 default icon for employees and 1 default icons for crews). If a profile picture is associated to the employee or crew, then that picture will be used to represent them on the map.

  • Employee location on the map is determined by the last known breadcrumb location from the mobile device that is available on the server (i.e., breadcrumbs have been synced back to server).

  • Crew location is determined the same way as employee location, except it will use the crew employee that has the Determines Crew Location for Dispatching checkbox selected on the Employee screen.

  • Employees and Crews can be selected from the map either by clicking or CTRL+clicking on the map icon. The icon will be enlarged (i.e., selected). In addition, the corresponding record in the Available Employee, Available Crews, and Dispatched Crews/Employees sections will be selected and filtered to the top of its respective section for quick reference.

  • Employees and Crews can also be selected by a new tool below the map.

  • Hovering over an employee or crew icon on the map will display a callout with additional details.

  • Right click options are available on the employee and crew map icons:

View/Delete Dispatch Labor - Displays a list of work order activities that are currently dispatched to the selected employee or crew.

    • 1 or more dispatching records can be selected in the grid and deleted, thus ‘un-dispatching’ them.

    • Total Dispatch Hrs. and Remaining Available Hrs. are calculated and displayed for the employee/crew.

    • Total Dispatch Hrs. and Remaining Available Hrs. will match the corresponding values on the calling record, except if the employee/crew has dispatch records for a future date (i.e., greater than Dispatch Date selected on Parameters callout). If future records exist and the popup is called from one of the ‘available’ sections, then the values will be different in the popup because the calling screen does not consider future dispatch records in the ‘available’ section while the popup always considers those future dispatch records.

Edit Crew - Calls the Edit Crew popup. See Edit Crew popup section for details.

Dispatch - This option will only be displayed if 1 or more work order activities are selected in the list. If clicked, the employee or crew will be dispatched to all selected work order activities.
