Use the Create Free Space Dimension command to copy a set of dimensions for one element, and move the dimension set so that it can be associated to one or more similar elements. This allows you to create multiple diagrams or drawings without having to define dimensions for each one.

  1. You can either select just the dimensions, or the dimensions and associated elements to copy.

To work with multiple elements that have associated dimensions, group them .

If you select just the associated elements, the software only copies the elements and does not copy the dimensions.

  2. On the Change toolbar, click Move .

  3. On the Move ribbon, click Create Free Space Dimensions , and then click Copy .

    • You can also click CTRL + C to copy the selected elements.

    • If you do not use Create Free Space Dimensions, the software does not copy the dimensions if you do not select all the original elements and dimension measurements.

  4. Click to define the 'from' point.

The software copies the selected elements and dimensions.

The example below shows just the selected dimensions being copied.

  5. Click to define the 'to' point and place the copied elements and dimensions.

  6. You can edit and adjust the new elements as required.

If you copied just the dimensions to be used with other similar elements, you can attach each dimension measurement to that element.

The green dot at the end of a dimension projection line indicates that the dimension is not yet attached or associated to an element as shown in the following example:

The green dots serve as visual cues only and do not show if you print the document.

  7. Select each dimension projection line and move the line to the element for association. You can only associate the copied dimensions one time. After that, you must either insert new dimensions measurements or make another copy.

The software automatically adjusts the dimension label measurements, if required. The following example shows the dimensions from the previous step now attached to a new group of elements.
