Enables you to specify or modify the rule name, description, or priority. Also, you can disable the rule if you need.

Name

Defines the name of the rule.

Description

Identifies the purpose or function of your rule.

Rule type

Displays the type of rule. Note these fields are disabled as no input is required.

System

System rules that are supplied with the software and cannot be edited or deleted. Note all the fields in these rules are disabled.

Engineering

Rules that can be added, edited, and deleted.

Rule action

Allows you to specify the type of rule action required.

Check data

Select this option when you want to create a consistency rule. These rules can be relation rules that check the consistency criteria applied to two specific components. These rules ensure that correct relationships are created when you create a new relationship or modify properties or values of related items, or single component rules that check the consistency criteria applied to one component only, validating the consistency of the properties or property values of a specific item tag.

Control graphic interface

Select this option when you want to create a rule that disables specific fields within a properties dialog box. These rules check the consistency criteria applied to specific fields of  a properties dialog box, and  disable specific fields when the criteria is met, for example; when property A equals "Red" and Property B equals "Cable" then disable properties A and B, stopping the changing of data.

Disable rule

Disables all logical expressions that you defined for the rule components in the Consistency tab. After you disable the rule, in SmartPlant Instrumentation, the software does not apply any actions that you specified for the logical expressions. In the tree view of SmartPlant Instrumentation Rule Manager, disabled rules are marked with a grayed out icon PPM All Outputs Graphic.

Priority

Determines which rule applies first when rules conflict with each other. You can define a value from 1 to 100, where 1 represents the lowest priority and 100 represents the highest. When a user of SmartPlant Instrumentation performs an operation that involves items to which several rules apply, the software first applies the rules with the highest priority.

In a case of rule inconsistency, if a specific logical expression in the rule is associated with the Reject action, the software rejects the operation automatically and does not apply any other rules that has lower priorities. Likewise, if a logical expression is associated with the Warn action, and the user rejects the operation, the software does not apply any other rules that has lower priorities.

  • You set a priority for an entire rule, not for a particular logical expression.

  • To expand the dialog box so that you can view more information, drag the edges.
