If you have not already installed and configured Intergraph Smart® Licensing Client on your workstation, we recommend doing so before installing Smart Instrumentation.

Smart Instrumentation requires Smart® Licensing Client software for concurrent licensing for both the core Smart Instrumentation product and for each module.  This licensing software is delivered on its own media.  For more information about using and configuring concurrent licensing, refer to the Smart Licensing Help.

  1. Insert the Smart Instrumentation DVD into the drive. If the installation does not start automatically, double-click setup.exe in the main folder.

  2. On the Welcome page, click Start Setup.

  3. On the Details and Features page, enter your user name, company details, and your product serial number.

These fields cannot be left blank.

  4. Under Select Features to Install, select the All Features check box, for a full installation of Smart Instrumentations components.

SHARED Tip You can clear the All Features check box and then select specific components by selecting each components check box.

  5. In the Install Path field, accept the default installation path or if required, specify a different path, and then click Install.

  6. Click Next.

  7. On the License Agreement page, select your country or region from the list to view the license agreement in your language and then select the I agree to the license agreement and conditions check box.

  8. Click Install.

  9. On completion of the installation, if you want to open the Readme file, select View Readme.

  10. Click Finish to close the installation wizard.

Upgrading to Smart Instrumentation 13.1 from versions of Smart Instrumentation prior to Smart Instrumentation 2018 requires upgrading to SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 SP1 first due to changes in the database structure.

After the upgrade to 2016 Service Pack 1 is completed, you must:

  1. Rebuild stored procedures and triggers for all domains.

  2. Rebuild projects in As-Built domains.

After completing the upgrade to Service Pack 1, you can then upgrade to your new version of Smart Instrumentation.

As-Built

After upgrading SmartPlant Instrumentation versions prior to 2016 Service Pack 1, in the As-Built domains, only the claimed root items display the Claimed Item icon Claimed arrow1 in the Domain Explorer. Child items, for example a terminal strip, that in previous versions displayed the Claimed Item icon no longer display this icon after upgrade.

Oracle users, when upgrading from SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 SP1 to Smart Instrumentation 13.1 must have both Oracle server 64-bit and Oracle client 64-bit installed as well as the 32-bit Oracle client. This is because certain functions such as backup and upgrade now use 64-bit client database components, while the 32-bit client is required for running Smart Instrumentation.
