  1. Open the symbol.

  2. Click Add Point Properties on the Cross Section Symbols toolbar.

  3. Select rows in the grid until the point to define as a cardinal point highlights graphically, or select the point in the graphics window.

  4. In the Point name box, select Load Point.

  5. In the Attribute setting box, type the cardinal point number for the highlighted point.

  6. Click Apply.

  7. Continue defining cardinal points until you have assigned all 15 cardinal points.

  8. Click File > Save.

  • The cardinal points that you define here are used by the software to place the cross section symbol on the member line.

  • There are 15 cardinal points. The location of cardinal points 10 (center-of-gravity) and 15 (shear center) depend on the section shape. The local z-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 11 and 14. The local y-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 12 and 13.
