  1. Determine the general path that the animation should take, noting key points of interest.

  2. Create a view group for your animation. The more frames (saved views) you have in the view group, the smoother the animation.

    Create a View Group

  3. Save a view at each point of interest along the animation path. Each of these saved views becomes a key frame animation point in your animation. Assign a frame number and save these views in the view group you created.

    Save the Current View

  4. Click Animation > Playback/Capture Settings > Common and make sure Key Frame is selected in the Animation types section.

  5. Click the Key Frame page in the Animation Playback/Capture Settings, and set the following:

    • The View group to see in the playback.

    • Enter the Start and End frames.

    • Define the playback speed, which is determined by both the Skip Interval rate and the Per seconds setting.

For more information on setting up Key Frame animations, see Configure Key Frame Animation Settings.

  6. Click Animation > Play, or open the Animation Player (Animation > Player) and click Play. You can review the playback, and then use the Animation Sequencer to adjust the playback speed or change the start time.

For Key Frame animations, make sure you do not have duplicate key frame numbers. When you attempt to play a Key Frame animation, Smart Review displays a message box listing any duplicated frame numbers.

  7. Use the Snapshot command (View > Snapshot) to capture raster images of the animation, or generate an AVI file. The AVI file is compressed using the Microsoft Video 1 codec. This codec is an available standard on all current Microsoft operating systems.

Position settings such as eye point and center point are "tweened" between key frames.

  8. To adjust the animation length, you can go back to Animation > Playback/Capture Settings > Common, and increase or decrease Step in days to adjust as required.

  • Use the Two-sided lighting option on the View Settings > Lighting tab when setting up the lighting in your saved views. This can help reduce flickering in the resulting animation. For more information, see Lighting Tab (View Settings Dialog Box).

  • You can use a third-party tool such as Adobe Premier to add overlays or touch up the images.
