  1. In the tree view, select a folder.

  2. Select File > New Rule PPM All Outputs Graphic.

  3. On the General tab of the Rule Properties dialog, enter a name and a description for the rule.

    SHARED Tip The Description box can contain links to an Internet address so that a detailed description can be stored on a website and accessed using this option. Enter a required URL address using the following format: http://www.<site name>

  4. From the Priority list, select a rule priority.

  5. On the Rule Components tab, select the Single component check box.

    OR

    Select the Apply to reference data check box if you want to create a rule that only involves reference data.

    SHARED Tip Rules that apply to reference data are always single component rules. In Smart Electrical, these rules validate consistency of the properties or property values of a specific item tag in the Reference Data Explorer. When you select this check box, the software automatically selects the Single component check box.

  6. Under Component 1, select Browse.

    SHARED Tip If you selected the check box Apply to reference data, the dialog that opens after you select Browse only displays item types belonging to reference data.

  7. On the Select Rule Component dialog, select Item type and then, under Selection list, select an item type.

    OR

    Select Filter and then, under Selection list, select a filter created in Filter Manager.

    SHARED Tip If you have appropriate access rights, you can access Filter Manager and then create another filter or modify properties of an existing filter.

  8. On the Consistency tab, under Operand 1, select the rule component (item type or filter).

  9. Under Property, select a property for the rule component.

  10. Under Copy, select an operator if required.

    SHARED Tip Use the copy function to propagate values across items and as a result make them consistent. For example copy a property value of the rule component or a fixed value to another property and create a consistency. An example of this is would be to validate that a motor's rated voltage is always 220V. For more details on the copy function operators, see Consistency Rules — Copy Function Operator Descriptions

  11. Under Operator, select a required operator. When using a copy operand the only operator available is equals and must be selected.

    SHARED Tip For more information about operator descriptions, see Operator Descriptions and Rule Examples.

  12. Under Operand 2, select the same rule component (item type or filter) to create a rule between two properties.

    OR

    Select Value to create a logical expression using a value of a specific property selected for the rule component selected under Operand 1.

  13. Under Property/Value, if the Operand 2 is the same rule component, select another property to create a relationship between the properties in operand 1 and operand 2.

    OR

    If the Operand 2 is the Value setting, depending on the logical operator that you selected, enter one or more values.

  14. Under Action, associate an action with the created logical expression by selecting one of the following options:

    Log

    Records the rule inconsistency to a log file without notifying the user. The user can access the log file from Smart Electrical.

    Warn

    Prompts the user to reject or accept the operation when a rule inconsistency is found. This action gives the user flexibility in making an appropriate decision.

    Reject

    Rejects user operation automatically and notifies the user about the rule inconsistency. This action enables you to prevent the user from accepting the operation when the software detects an inconsistency. When using the copy operation a reject action will not allow any changes that might result in an inconsistency and no warning message is displayed.

  15. Repeat steps 8 through 13 to create another logical expression for the rule consistency.
