A buckling plate stiffens the web and flange of a member. It can be positioned by and bounded to plates sharing a nodal connection with the member or it can be defined by dimensions.

  • If you specify only one continuity plate, then the buckling plate is positioned where the continuity plate intersects the first side plate. In the following example, the continuity plate is yellow, and the buckling plate is green.

  • If you specify two continuity plates, then the buckling plate is positioned between the intersection of the first continuity plate and the first side plate, and the intersection of the second continuity plate and the second side plate. In the following example, the continuity plates are yellow, and the buckling plate is green.

  • If you specify dimensions, then the buckling plate can be on one or both sides of the member and have full or partial height, as shown in green in the following example.

  • For a tubular or boxed member, you specify the distance from the start node, as shown in green in the following examples.
