Use SPFOpen.exe to run the Desktop Client using an executable file installed on the local workstation and registered as a custom URL protocol. The URL begins with SPFOpen, using the following sample syntax: SPFOpen:PLANT=plant_name^U=user_name^W=server_name

Before you can run the Desktop Client using a URL, you must:

Have a valid client installation, either local or UNC install, on the local workstation.

Start the Desktop Client manually on the workstation to create the settings.xml file in the C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\SmartPlant\Foundation\[version] folder to record the installation location.

If you are using SmartPlant Foundation Web Client, to be able to open hyperlinks in email notifications, you must specify the fully-qualified URL to the Web Client site in the SDAClientURL property on the Site Settings node in Server Manager.
