In any database, there are two types of text maps--one for material item codes and one for material descriptions. The item code text map contains all the item codes for all the materials in the database; the description text map contains all the descriptions for all the materials in the database.
When you create a new database, only one item code text map and one description text map exist within it. Both text maps are named Default. While it is not necessary for you to create additional text maps for item codes and descriptions, the software provides the option for you to do so. There is no limit to the number of item code or descriptions that you can include in a database. However, you must have at least one text map enabled for item codes and one text map enabled for descriptions.
You can view text map data using the Text Maps tab on the Database window. However, to create new or edit existing text map data, you must use the Text Map Manager. The Text Map Manager, which is available on the Tools menu, provides you with options for adding, modifying, or deleting text maps in the current database. You can also use the Text Map Manager to specify which text map is current.
The current text maps are displayed in the Database window status bar.
