Copy BOM Setup

  1. On the Home page, click Bill of Materials > SETUP > Copy BOM Setup.

  2. Select the project from the Copy from Project select list to indicate the project which you want to copy the BOM setup from.

If you choose your own project, you must select different disciplines for origin and target.

  3. Select the appropriate check boxes to indicate which setup data you want to copy. For example, select the List Status check box to indicate that all list status that have been defined in the project are to be copied, and so forth.

    • The List View Properties which are defined under the BOM are also project dependent. Only those properties which are made in the product group will be copied in the List User View Properties.

    • The Add to existing views check box will be enabled only when the BOM Views check box is checked. If you select the Add check box under BOM Views, you can copy BOM Views from the source project even though there exists some BOM Views in destination project.

    • When copying the BOM Views, you also copy the configurations assigned to these views.

    • Language dependent descriptions will be copied as well.

    • Project defaults are not copied by the procedure. You should check whether the values are set correctly.

  4. Select Discipline, All Disciplines, or Login Discipline to indicate for which disciplines the selected objects are to be copied.

  5. If you select Discipline, select the From Discipline to indicate the discipline the data is to be copied from and the To Discipline to indicate the discipline the data is to be copied to.

    • Selecting All Disciplines will copy data from all disciplines that are assigned to the target.

    • Selecting Login Discipline indicates that only data of the discipline you are currently logged in will be copied from the origin project to the target project.

  6. Click Start.

  • The copy BOM setup function should be used at the beginning of a project, before any data is entered, because this function can only be used for tables that have not been filled with data already. If any setup data has been entered before using this function, the copy BOM setup function will not overwrite this data.

  • Data will only be created if no records can be found for the target project in the corresponding table. This will be checked table by table, which means: If verifications, for example, have already been defined in the target project but no node types, and you checked both check boxes, no verifications will be copied from the source project. But the node types will be taken over.

  • You can press the Start button multiple times. For example, you might like to copy the verifications from project A but the node types from project B. Then you use the Start button twice: Once with project A and checking the check box for verifications, once with project B and checking the check box for node types.

  • Only setup data for which the check box has been checked will be considered during the copy process.

  • After the completion of the copy process, and after confirmation of a message, the Show Log File dialog opens, where you can see the name and content of the log file of the copy process. This allows you to see if the result of the copy process is as you expected or if perhaps no data were copied because data are already present in some of the involved tables.

  • If you need to take another look at this log file after you have closed the Show Log File dialog, you can open the log file from the file system. The log file name starts with CBS_ followed by a sequential number. The file extension is .log. The file can be found in the directory defined by DBA setting LOG_FILE_DEST.
