A set of valid characters has been chosen for queue names and shell names. The character set consists of all alphanumeric (both upper and lower case) and punctuation characters, with the following exceptions:

  1. The punctuation characters @ \ ( ) = and , are invalid. These characters already have special meaning for the qmgr interface.

  2. The punctuation characters - and / are invalid for the first character of a queue or shell name. In most cases, the command line utilities expect these characters to signal the start of an option.
