In Intergraph Smart Materials, a Bill of Materials (BOM) can be considered a list of material for a node in the work breakdown structure (WBS). It can be created for a unit, area, line number, or an isometric. Commonly, BOMs are created for line numbers in the estimating or forecast phases, and for isometrics after design has been started.
In the estimating or forecast phases, material is entered either manually or it can be imported from Microsoft Excel sheets, and in the design phase, it is imported from a design system (see also Import Design Data Tasks).
Before an estimate or a forecast can be performed, a BOM structure must be defined. The first step is to create a master node under which all other nodes will be placed. Most frequently, this is the discipline.
The project default ZB_1MSTR (Only one master node) determines, if you can only enter one single master node, or multiple master nodes.
